GENDER NON-CONFORMING
Definition: Gender Non-Conforming (GNC), is a presentation variance describing an individual whose gender presentation does not align with or reflect their gender identity. GNC individuals may identify with any gender modality, including cisgender. Possible examples of gender non-conformity include, but are not limited to: 1) A woman who presents masculinely. 2) A man who presents androgynously. 3) A non-binary individual who presents femininely. 4) GNC individuals may use labels that specifically describe their gender presentation, such as masculine, neutral, butch, femme, and terms belonging to gender presentation systems like the pallet system. Gender non-conformity commonly focuses on the physical appearance aspect of gender presentation, such as hair style, style of clothes, use of makeup and/or nail polish, and presence of facial hair and/or body hair. Other aspects of gender presentation, such as having certain personality traits or interests, having certain professions, or using certain pronouns, also may relate to gender non-conformity.
