Read local 📚 One of the best parts of traveling for work means getting to visit some of the bookstores we only get to fan after on social media. And #Pittsburgh, you did not disappoint! We snuck in two quick pop-ins to @riverstonebookstore and @penguinbookshop before we had to head out back home and both shops were simply lovely. Thank you to the kind and welcoming booksellers who showed me around your stores, recommended books for me to take home to family and friends, and let me take a few pics of your beautiful stores and shelves. And a really BIG thank you for supporting our publishers and their books! @americanbooksellers @shelf.awareness #ci7 #kidstute #childrensinstitute #bookseller #readlocal #kidsbooks #childrensbooks #kidlit #kidlitart #bookstorebucketlist #bookstore #bookstagram (at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/BzW6o_RAQk9/?igshid=1xe8shn9lkzry

Preview of a Couple of Really Awesome Fall Books (if you’re not an adult or at least don’t only read adult books)
I had the pleasure of going to the ABA’s Children’s Institute last week, which is one of the many super-awesome perks of a career in bookselling. There are educational sessions to help me be better at my job, but there’s also the opportunity to meet a ton of authors and hear about books coming out in the future.
Armand Baltazar is one of the authors I got to meet. I sat across from him at a dinner. I had the opportunity to read an early copy of his book before I met him, so I got to tell him exactly how much I loved it, which is always a thrill. A synopsis of Timeless follows:
For fans of Rick Riordan and Brian Selznick, author-artist Armand Baltazar introduces Timeless: Diego and the Rangers of the Vastlantic, the first in a new science fiction/fantasy series that explores a world painted new by the Time Collision. Integrating art and text, this epic and cinematic adventure features more than 150 full-color illustrations. You’ve never seen Earth like this before: continents reshaped, oceans re-formed, cities rebuilt, and mountains sculpted anew. Dinosaurs roam the plains alongside herds of buffalo, and giant robots navigate the same waters as steam-powered ships. This is the world Diego Ribera was born into. The past, present, and future coexisting together. In New Chicago, Diego’s middle school hallways buzz with kids from all eras of history and from cultures all over the world. The pieces do not always fit together neatly, but this is the world he loves. There are those, however, who do not share his affection. On his thirteenth birthday, Diego learns of a special gift he has within, a secret that is part of something much bigger—something he cannot understand. When his father, New Chicago’s top engineer, is taken by the Aeternum, Diego must rescue him and prevent this evil group from disrupting the fragile peace humanity has forged.
It’s due out October 3rd.
Marie Lu was not in attendance, but early copies of the first book in her next series were. I have adored Marie Lu since the beginning, and she keeps getting better. I am thrilled to have been one of the first reviewers of this book, and I cannot wait for you all to be able to read it. Synopsis of Warcross, due out September 12th:
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Marie Lu—when a game called Warcross takes the world by storm, one girl hacks her way into its dangerous depths. For the millions who log in every day, Warcross isn’t just a game—it’s a way of life. The obsession started ten years ago and its fan base now spans the globe, some eager to escape from reality and others hoping to make a profit. Struggling to make ends meet, teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter, tracking down players who bet on the game illegally. But the bounty-hunting world is a competitive one, and survival has not been easy. To make some quick cash, Emika takes a risk and hacks into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships—only to accidentally glitch herself into the action and become an overnight sensation. Convinced she’s going to be arrested, Emika is shocked when instead she gets a call from the game’s creator, the elusive young billionaire Hideo Tanaka, with an irresistible offer. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament in order to uncover a security problem . . . and he wants Emika for the job. With no time to lose, Emika’s whisked off to Tokyo and thrust into a world of fame and fortune that she’s only dreamed of. But soon her investigation uncovers a sinister plot, with major consequences for the entire Warcross empire. In this sci-fi thriller, #1 New York Times bestselling author Marie Lu conjures an immersive, exhilarating world where choosing who to trust may be the biggest gamble of all.
