it's WILD seeing iris haters try to paint that moment in girls night out when iris touches frost's shoulder and frost tells her to remove it as evidence that frost or caitlin hates iris. and not like. further evidence towards the very canonical fact that 1) team flash is very physically affectionate with one another to the point that it makes outsiders uncomfortable or confused multiple times like oliver and bates, 2) frost doesn't yet consider herself as apart of team flash or even a friend to them, 3) iris going to touch their shoulder was a natural response because that's usually her friend caitlin, and she's trying to stop them both from abandoning team flash again, 4) frost doesn't want whatever affection iris has towards caitlin to be conflated with frost because she's scared of being caitlin and vice versa. like that scene shows so much of iris' good traits and how well she does know caitlin despite them being "work friends," but it's too often used as fodder for some made-up drama they don't actually have canonically, at the expense of the far richer drama they are going through in that episode

Iris leaned closer, putting her hand on Frost's thigh. "Come dance with me?"

"I—yeah, okay." Frost nodded, mouth going dry.

"It feels nice to get out of the house." Iris sighed, leaning against the bar. She spun the shot glass in her hand, which had hints of her red lipstick smudged on it. Iris had been struggling with postpartum depression, and Frost was happy to see the pep back in her step. She had decided it was high time they all went out. Joe and Cecile were watching the kids tonight. Iris looked lovely. Frost could barely focus on Barry and Cisco's bad dancing with Eddie and Kamilla

Iris hadn't felt up to dancing, and Frost wasn't sure where she fit with them, leaving them alone at the bar. And being alone with Iris, in her red dress that hugged her curves just right, while drunk was probably a slippery slope, but she'd worry about that later.

Iris was Caitlin's girlfriend, not Frost's. Frost appreciated how happy she made Caitlin, and could admit she enjoyed waking up in Iris' arms sometimes. But Frost didn't do relationships. Not since Mark. (Except Caitlin, but Caitlin was always Frost's exception to everything)

Even though her heart wanted to jump out her chest when Iris laughed. Even though she was certain Iris liked her, too. She didn't want to mess things up for her and Caitlin.

Maybe she was more than a few shots in.

"You're staring." Iris mumbled.

Frost hummed. She was. She couldn't bring herself to care. "You look good tonight. Sue me."

Iris laughed. "You do too." she purred, looking Frost up and down.

She felt her face flush. She'd borrowed Iris' leather jacket to pull over her Fleetwood Mac shirt, and paired it with a pair of ripped jeans and a belt. Frost didn't think it was anything special, but the way Iris looked at her made her feel like the hottest person in the room.

Iris leaned closer, putting her hand on Frost's thigh. "Come dance with me?"

"I—yeah, okay." Frost nodded, mouth going dry. She hopped off the bar stool and held out her hand to Iris with a grin, hoping to portray confidence she definitely didn't have. Iris' hand was so warm in hers, and she was suddenly struck with the question if Iris was warm like that all over—

She makes a mental note to never, ever get drunk around Iris or any pretty girl ever again.

You're allowed to want her, you know. Caitlin suddenly mutters. Frost jumped a bit.

"You okay?" Iris chuckled. Frost nodded quickly.

"Uh. Yeah. Caitlin says hi." she explains lamely. The song is slow and Iris makes the first move, putting her hands around Frost's shoulders and sways her hips a bit.

"Dancing is a partner activity, sweetheart." she teases.

Frost realizes, with the intensity and speed of getting hit by a truck, that's shes utterly in love with Iris. Liking her was one thing, and wanting to kiss her wasn't a big deal, but Frost couldn't be in love with Iris. Frost doesn't do love.

You love me. Caitlin whispers, a light laugh at the end of her words.

That's different, Frost thinks back. You're.. you. She puts her hands on Iris' hips and forces a grin. Iris was off limits.

I hadn't noticed, was the amused reply Caitlin gave.

"What's going on in that head of yours?" Iris asks, one hand cupping the back of Frost's neck, scratching at her scalp lightly. Frost gets a bit dizzy at how casual Iris is about touching her. How easily Iris slides her hands over Frost's cold skin.

Frost sighs. "Just thinking about how nice this is."

"Yeah." Iris smiled, "It'd be really nice if you kissed me, though."

Frost wants to. She lets out a shuddering breath at the thought, and leans forward to rest her forehead on Iris'. There isn't anything she wants more in this moment than to do so, but she can't bring herself to cross that line. Iris laughs and adds: "You are allowed to, you know," because Iris always knows exactly what she's thinking in a way that drives her crazy.

"You really want me to?" Frost can't wrap her mind around actually going through with what she's been wanting for months now. She knows how soft Iris' lips are, from all the times Caitlin has pressed her own to the shorter woman's. She knows the soft groans Iris lets out when Caitlin bites her lip. Frost knows, and she's only been an observer to it, but she so badly wants to be the one responsible for making Iris melt like that.

"I mostly just want you," Iris confesses easily, "but a kiss is a good start, hm?"

Kiss her, Frost. Caitlin urges softly. She's so pretty. Doesn't she deserve a kiss?

It's only with Caitlin's encouragement that she starts to move. Her hands come up from Iris' waist and cup her face, and she surges forward, capturing Iris' lips. The bar around them fades away, and she's left only with the repeating thought of Iris, Iris, Iris.

Iris kisses her back with a desperation that takes Frost's breath away. Her lips are so warm against Frost's, and Frost shivers when Iris runs her tongue over her bottom lip.

When Iris pulls back for air, Frost can't help but giggle. It wasn't as intimidating as she'd built it up to be. It was the best kiss she'd ever had, and she had to restrain herself from immediately leaning back in for more, but nothing bad had happened. Iris didn't run away. More importantly. Frost didn't run away. And Iris wanted her. Iris wanted her and she started to suspect this night was more than just relaxing, and Iris' other partners leaving them alone wasn't a coincidence. Which meant that this was okay. Maybe Frost could allow herself to want someone other than Caitlin. She already trusted Iris with Caitlin, and the risk of getting her heart broken wasn't nearly as important as that.

"Are you finally going to ask me out?" Iris whispered, smiling. Knowing Frost had put it together. Knowing that Frost wanted to, so, so badly.

Frost laughed. "One thing at a time."

The thing was, she didn’t love Iris. No, really, she didn’t. She had, once upon a time, but… But she didn’t anymore. She’d gotten over that, patched her broken heart and tears in the silence of her own apartment. She’d been the first to cheer for Barry and Iris’s engagement, for crying out loud. Not to mention…she’d died. Woken up as Killer Frost, the evil villain with a frozen heart and no compassion. Earth-2 had taught her that much. A monster. Iris deserved better than that. Iris already had better than that. So no, she didn’t love Iris anymore. And if Savitar ever dared taunt her again about things he knew nothing about…she’d put an icicle through his heart. (No, she wouldn’t. Not as long as she needed his help. But Caitlin had always been exceptional at lying to herself.)
