Killjoys - 2x05 || 5x05
Did she even want me?
Aneela? Very much.
I LOVE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
I feel like the last two episodes of Killjoys were an elaborate ruse to get HJK into that vest and tie and I for one have never been so happy to be tricked by a tv show
[initial reactions] Killjoys 5x05 - A Bout, A Girl
NOW THAT IS WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT.
This was a fantastic episode, this show is at its best pulling threads together and mixing it in with relationships.
The brokenness when Dutch reveals how much this weirdness and Johnny pulling away is hurting her -- that the Lady took away her gravity, the person she comes back to, and keeps her together. The look on D’avin’s face wasn’t hurt or jealousy. Instead, he was pained for Dutch and for Johnny.
@arbitrarygreay is right. There won’t be any love triangles here despite the confusion and complicated-ness the fake marriage between Dutch and Johnny because D’avin is first and foremost always concerned about both Dutch and Johnny. For him they hold equal footing in his heart, if Dutch and Johnny want to be together he would be the first to push them together.
In the end, I have a feeling the relationship between the trio won’t be conventional and the whole Yardeen - Kin Rit - Kendry - Jacobi family will be difficult to describe to the outsiders but make no mistake they will be family.
D’avin is always great when and I like him better when he is so supportive of other people and playing against what is expected of him -- rough and aggressive.
Even with Kendry, D’avin is playing some sort of support, even if he’s just an imagination. D’avin wanted to be a better father than what his father was to him and Johnny. And reminding Kendry that Jaq is still fragile.
I love how Kendry tells Jaq that not only is he important to the mission but he is important to her too. And that with or without Kendry they are mother and son. I love how their relationship can be a metaphor for unplanned motherhood.
“I didn’t plan for you Jaq, I wasn’t the type to want you. I was full. I was fine. And now you’re here, and I’m still fine. But I won’t be if anything ever happens to you. Because you are my son. And I’m you’re mother, and losing Aneela doesn’t change any of that. ”
This leads of course to the fantastic scene where Jaq reveals the mirror cube and that Aneela was hidden there all along. The way Aneela couldn’t take her eyes of Kendry, her breathless “Kendry.”
Kendry falling on her knees in disbelief and Jaq, an observer to finally meeting his other mother he never met before.
And for some reason, the voice over in the end with Khlyen reminded me of an episode in Person of Interest.
I like the warden and I hope they don’t kill her off but I have hope since Johnny found her.
Another show Khlyen’s voice-over reminded of: The Good Place -- ‘what we owe each other’ speech.
God. This show is so good.
BTW just when I think they forget the whole Qresh political storyline, it appears again!
PLEASE TELL ME MORE PEOPLE ARE WATCHING IT TOO!
Killjoys 5x05 Spoilers
This Dutch/Johnny angst is killing me. But I love that they brought back the 'gravity' line and actually showed us how Dutch used her connection to Johnny to give herself strength.
Killjoys - 5x05 - The world is a very dangerous place. There are enemies everywhere. Always ready to do us harm. What is the thing that keeps us safe? It's not the law. Nor is it strength. It's what we can do for each other. Whether it's the people we love or the ones we meet along the way. This is all we have. This is what makes us human.
