the music of wakanda forever
while the entire movie is spectacular and probably my most favorite MCU movie of all time, i just wanted to talk about the soundtrack.
the soundtrack contains of numerous amazing musical and lyrical masterpieces that really pertain to the movie. but let's talk about one of my favorite songs - Coming Back For You by Fireboy DML.
Well, I pray that the universe
Wakanda's culture and traditions have always been dependent on Gods and ancestors, like Bast and Bashenga. Then their is the famous ancestral plane which only Black Panthers have access to. They've always been superstitious - which means praying to gods, ancestors, to the universe itself is something they would do to bless someone.
Gives you way more than you deserve
This lyric, I would say, pertains to Shuri. Shuri, who has lost her father to an explosion. Shuri, who has lost her brother to an illness. Shuri, who has lost her mother to war. She does not know what did she do to deserve such unfortune and suffering, which means the prayer to the universe is for her, that the universe be good to her.
And when your tears fall like shooting stars
The movie is all dramatic and sad. Especially with the deaths of two main characters - and Shuri's family. This movie has shown Shuri crying more often than not. She cried when she could not save T'Challa. She cried when remembering her brother. She cried when she talked about not being able to save him. She cried when her mother died. She was tearing up when she heard her mother's voice. She cried when she was burning her funeral clothes. This movie was about grief. Tears come along with grief.
This line was shown during the fight of Namor and Shuri in the beach. Shuri heard the words, to show them who she is. That vengeance should not consume her at all, that she is merciful and that she wants peace. Who she is, depended right at that moment. If she would let vengeance consume her or not.
And the next line is even more related because-
Just look up to the sky, you'll see
At the credits scene, Shuri is crying while looking at the vast sky and ocean. She is crying and mourning and in grief. In grief because she had lost her family. In grief because her wrath had almost lost herself, and that was probably the most troubling to her.
This song is a dedication to Shuri of Wakanda. And the bottomline of this theory I have is that - T'Challa is most definitely rooting for her from the ancestral plane. That he, along with their mother and father, is praying to the universe. That it should be nicer to Shuri. That he knows she is grieving, but he also knows that she is stronger and has become stronger after the whole ordeal.
Even if Shuri did not see her brother or her mother or her father in the ancestral plane, they love her more than the universe provides. I just think that while it was dooming to see Killmonger in the ancestral plane, her family will always be there.
That they're never going to leave her, and that theyll see her someday. When she needs them.
[Just liked to think that this song could be a dedication to Shuri by her family but most of all, T'Challa. T'Challa, her brother, whom she has been the closest to. T'Challa, whose illness couldn't be treated even after all her gifts and prayers. T'Challa who loved his sister a lot. The sibling dynamics have always been there: bickering, fighting, joking around. Losing that person you are the most comfortable with, the person whom you trusted the most is the most devastating thing. So at most, this was a theory I personally wanted to share. And I just miss T'Challa real bad.]
