Grace is a fan of anything Afrobeats and Afro-pop. She likes hip-hop and rap but honestly isn’t up to date with what’s “cool” with the kids. She also likes some pop, it’s a half and half kind of thing. Loves most R&B and soul and anything with a good beat.

✦ to learn about my character’s family

Sawyer’s relationship with her family, aside from Dawson and Isabella, is strained. As she is the third youngest of nine siblings, her older brothers and sisters have a different father from the three of them so they distanced themselves from the Craven clan, angry that their mother cheated on their father resulting in the conception of Sawyer. 

Reynold Craven, Sawyer’s father died from a drug overdose right before Isabella, now two years old, was born. Behind he left his wife, Mary, who is a drug addict as well to raise their children alone. But it wasn’t Mary who was taking care of Dawson and Isabella, it was Sawyer. It was Sawyer who drove them to school and helped them with their homework. It was Sawyer who made them breakfast, lunch and dinner, who signed her brother’s field trip permission slips, who changed their diapers and dressed them for the day.

Social Services eventually deemed Mary Craven an unfit parents and made Sawyer Dawson and Isabella’s permanent guardian.

The three siblings have always been close, but with their new family arrangement it just brought them closer together. Dawson and Isabella are Sawyer’s only family, as far as she’s concerned.

sawyer has her high school diploma and has taken certificate training to be a caregiver at the assisted living facility. she put off college after high school but she’s currently enrolled in a medical course at portland community college.
