1. David is Red-Green Colorblind.

Slightly Ironic given those are the colors I associate most with him. Something something unable to look inward at himself… there’s a metaphor for his character here, I’m sure of it.

2. David snores loud as HELL because of sleep-apnea.

This is technically implied canon, because of how bad his nose is fucked up. So I’m gonna add onto that with,

2.5 David sleeps like a rock.

Since it’s so hard for him to get to sleep in the first place, when he’s out — he is OUT. You could push him off the bed and he’d be out still. He’s also a very active person, so he’s exhausted enough to do it. You could slap him and he’d garble a swear while still asleep before going back to snoring.

3. He’s lit a boon totem once.

Brief HC for context: I like the idea that anyone can do “magic” because the presence of the entity puts them in so much danger that they’re able to “tap into” their soul to use things like boons and invocations. This is also how endurance works, but that’s more of a reflex and doesn’t actually grant full immunity to injury, just lets you power through it. The hard part is actually doing it on purpose.

After Mikaela joined the realms, she tried to teach survivors how to light totems. David — bored and slightly jealous of other people figuring it out before he did — decided to try it. And it worked!

4. Surprisingly soft when it comes to dogs.

His aunt had two big ones before she passed away. Two Saint Bernards. She always treated him nicely, so he was always in a good mood when he was over there and would wrestle with the dogs from time to time.

Something about a creature designed to unconditionally love you felt nice to be around. He won’t admit it, but he cried a lot more than he thought he would when he figured out they’d died.

They both had similar backgrounds; famous parents (though for different reasons), wealth, good education, all that jazz. Yet, David had shit parents and turned out like this.

Sometimes he wonders if he’d be like Felix if things had been better. This thought train leads him to jealousy half the time, and self-hatred for the other.

I’ll keep this brief since the major description is on the Felix blog (and both are based off of the male betta, so I don’t have to explain the differences that’d come with a more femme character) but the biggest differences are:

- David is a rarer giant betta, meaning his “human frame” when he’s in the water he gets about 5 inches (~14cm) taller. His tail length leans on the average side, unlike Felix whose tail is longer than the average. (*since David is bigger, this is not a comparison to each other)

- His primary colors are green and black (like the photo), but the “plumes” on his arms are red (not shown in the photo, this is just a creativity thing).

- Crown Tail betta design

- His tattoos are strangely vibrant now.

- He’s got a lot of stab wounds on his back and a few on his stomach, implying foul play was involved in bringing him here.

- Also some scars from the fishing crews he’s sabotaged.

- This is mainly a personality difference, but he can’t hum well like other mer-folk since his nose is busted. He doesn’t like singing either, so he often just skips stones or breaks things for entertainment.

Edit: Another behavioral note, David isn’t as good of a speaker as Felix is. Whenever he talks to humans, he often stumbles over words. He doesn’t remember as much as Felix does about communicating.

Rumors say he even lost his tail in his other form because of it. He works at the upstairs bar, both as a bartender and a bouncer for when security is busy. He enjoys the latter job more than the former. He’s a pretty blunt conversationalist, but he knows his way around this impossible labyrinth, and that’s incredibly valuable. - Last Moon: After being bitten by a werewolf, David had to flee his home to avoid being murdered by his old kin. He’s been hunted down in several towns since, but always finds a way to slip out and go elsewhere. Maybe you’ll be the one to finally catch him. (🌕🩸)
