Book 69 of 2019 /// The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes. Set in a small town in Kentucky in 1939, this book tells the story of a group of extraordinary women, who go against the patriarchal, small-minded and conservative values of their town to distribute books to far flung rural areas as a part of a travelling library. Book 38 of 2019 /// The Moon Sister by Lucinda Riley. This is the fifth book in the Seven Sisters series by the author. This series is about six sisters, who’d been adopted by a mysterious billionaire. On his death, he leaves them clues about their birth families. So, each book in the series follows the journey of each sister as she follows the clues left by their father. These books are historical fiction in terms of their genre as we get to see the lives of a female ancestor of each of the sisters. We get to follow the fifth sister- Tiggy’s- story as she sets off to find her birth family. Like the all the other books in the series, this is an interesting read as we get to see the lives of the Romani community in Spain during the Second World War as well as experience the Flamenco dancing community. Book 35 of 2019/// I’ll Never Tell by Catherine McKenzie brings together a summer camp + a sort-of-dysfunctional family + a 20-year-old murder mystery. This is a quite a decent read and really fast-paced. The book effortlessly moves from the events of the past to that of present day as the siblings who’ve inherited the camp try to make sense of who was responsible for the incident 20 years ago that no one’s been able to forget. Book 34 of 2019 /// What She Saw by Wendy Clarke is an interesting book about a woman haunted by her past. Leona is a very protective mother and would do anything to keep her daughter safe, including not letting her make too many friends. She has a secret in her past that she is terrified of and when that secret threatens to spill into her present, Leona’s careful compartmentalised world starts to fall apart. What is this secret? What are the scary flashes of memory that haunt her daughter, Beth? Will they be able to escape their past? The book revolves around all these questions. This is a good enough thriller but, again, kinda obvious what is going on. Parts of it were plain dull. Book 27 of 2019 /// The Dare by Carol Wyer tells the story of a serial killer, who is using a social media challenge to pick his victims. When the bodies of two 14 year old girls are found, after they had played the Disappear Challenge, the local cops must race against time to stop a sophisticated killer from striking again. . . This was a decent enough book but I found it quite dull and stretchy in parts! Also, it was quite obvious, who the killer was as the red herrings were a little too obvious!
