Stephen King hard case crime hardback books.
Let's start the day with a murder. Shall we?
“Maybe. I still prefer honesty. And in this case, the truth is that Tom needs me too much to agree to a divorce. He’d kill me before letting me leave.”
A sign of abuse is often an admission by the victim of not being able to leave the abuser for fear of retaliation or safety, and it can be nonchalantly dismissed especially if it’s said in a “joking” manner.
Follow your gut instinct and always remember that abusers thrive off the victim’s dependency, and support them if they ever mention this so casually.
Heartbreaking for Katherine to be in such a terrible situation. 😭

It’s getting dark in Tokyo and anything can happen... My first book by Haruki Murakami (four years ago) and my first book by Ryū Murakami (a month ago) immediately got me hooked! They are very different, the only similarity being that the stories take place in Tokyo at night. “After Dark” is best illustrated by famous “We are like the dreamer who dreams, and then lives inside the dream.” Murakami never says who the dreamer is and I really like it about him. “In the Miso Soup” is an absolutely brutal, terrifying book 😬 Normally, I try to stay away from anything too graphic unless it is there for artistic reasons and it makes a good story. In this book it is and it does, so I couldn’t put it down no matter how petrified I was and now I want to read everything by this author! It’s hard to explain why we are obsessed with gritty crime thrillers like THE BUTTERFLY HOUSE by Katrine Engberg, but this one is particularly compelling. If you have ever read (and loved) Kathy Reichs, this might be your new favourite series... Find out more: https://www.simonandschuster.ca/books/The-Butterfly-House/Katrine-Engberg/9781982171131
