Have you been studying grammar well? Today, I brought some actual Korean high school senior mock test questions so that you can review and check what you have learned.
Parts that were not posted on the post or too difficult were not included in the questions. If you have studied grammar well, I think you won't have much difficulty understanding and solving the problem:)
[1] Which example of [example] using (A) is correctly selected in (a)~(d)?
------------[example]-----------------
선생님: 여러분이 헷갈려 하는 것들 중 (A)용언의 어간과 결합하는 명사형 어미 ‘-(으)ㅁ’, ‘-기’가 있어요. 이것은 용언의 품사를 바꾸지 않으며, 이것이 결합해 활용된 용언은 서술하는 기능이 유지되고 부사어의 수식을 받을 수 있어요.
Teacher: There is a 명사형 어미 ‘-(으)ㅁ’, ‘-기’ that combines 용언 among the things you are confused about. This does not change the 품사 of 용언, and the 용언 that is used in combination is maintained about function of description and the modification for 부사어 can be obtained.
- 세상은 홀로 (a)살기가 어렵다. (The world is hard to live alone.)
- 형은 충분히 (b)잠으로써 피로를 풀었다. (My brother has relieved his fatigue by sleeping enough.)
- 날씨가 더워 시원한 (c)얼음이 필요하다. (The weather is hot, so we need cool ice.)

------------------------------------------
(1) a, b
(2) a, d
(3) c
(4) a, b, d
(5) b, c
[2] What is NOT true about (A) and (B) written in (a)~(e) of [example]?
------------[example]------------------
용언은 어간에 어미가 붙어 다양한 의미를 나타내며 활용된다. 어미는 (A)선어말 어미와 (B)어말 어미로 나뉜다. 어말 어미는 다시 종결 어미, 연결 어미, 전성 어미로 나뉜다. 용언의 활용형에서 선어말 어미는 없는 경우가 있어도 어말 어미는 반드시 있어야 한다.
용언 is used to conjugation by attaching 어미 to 어간. 어미 is divided into (A)선어말 어미 and 어말 어미. 어미 is again divided into 종결 어미, 연결 어미, and 전성 어미. Even if there is no 선어말 어미 in 용언, 어말 어미 must be present.
(a) 민수가 그 나무를 심었구나! (Minsu planted the tree.)
(b) 저기서 청소하는 아이가 내 동생이야. (The kid cleaning over there is my brother.)
(c) 그 친구가 설마 그 음식을 다 먹었겠니? (Would he have eaten all that food?)
(d) 그가 나에게 권한 책은 이미 읽은 책이다. (The book he recommended me is a book he has already read.)
(e) 주말에 바람은 불겠지만 비는 오지 않을 것이다. (The wind will blow on the weekend, but it will not rain.)
------------------------------------------
(1) In (a), '-었-' is written as (A), and 감탄형 종결 어미 ‘-구나’ is written as (B).
(2) There is no (A) in (b) but a 전성 어미 ‘-는’ signifying the present tense of the verb is written as (B).
(3) In (c), '-었-' representing the past tense and ‘-겠-’ indicating the will of the subject were written as (A), and 의문형 종결 어미 ‘-니’ as (B).
(4) There is no (A) in (d). 전성 어미 ‘-은’ signifying the verb's past tense was written as (B).
(5) In (e), ‘-겠-’ signifying surmise was written as (A), and 연결 어미 ‘-지만’ was written as (B).
[3] What is not appropriate for the psychological attitude shown in (a)~(e) of [example]?
------------[example]-----------------
-어미 can be used to reveal the speaker's psychological attitude, such as 추정(estimation), 감탄(admiration), 단정(conclusion), 확인(verification), 의지(volition), 전달(conveyance), etc.
영희: 너 오늘 산에 간다고 했잖아. 오늘 간 거 (a)맞지? (You said you were going to the mountain today. you went today, right?)
철수: 아니, 못 갔어. 내일은 꼭 가고 (b)말겠어. (No, I couldn't. I'll definitely go tomorrow.)
영희: 그럼 너희 형은? (What about your brother?)
철수: 아마 (c)갔을걸. 아까 엄마 말씀이 (d)갔다더라고. (Maybe gone. My mom told me earlier that he's gone.)
영희: 우와. 너희 형은 정말로 (e)대단하구나. (Wow. Your brother is really great.)
------------------------------------------
(1) (a): 확인(verification)
(2) (b): 의지(volition)
(3) (c): 추정(estimation)
(4) (d): 단정(conclusion)
(5) (e): 감탄(admiration)

***ANSWERS***
[1]
answer: (4)
explanation: (a) is a combination of 어간 of 용언 ‘-살’ and 명사형 어미 ‘-기’. And (a) is modificated by 부사어 ‘홀로’. ‘살-’ retains the ability to describe. (b) is a combination of 어간 of 용언 ‘자-’ and 명사형 어미 ‘-ㅁ’. And (b) is modificated by 부사어 ‘충분히’. ‘자-’ retains the ability to describe. (c) is a noun that combines 어근 ‘얼-’ with 접사 ‘-음’ to receive a modification of 관형사, ‘시원한’. (d) is the combination of 명사형 어미 ‘-기’ to 용언의 어간 ‘아름답-’. (d) is modificated by 부사어 ‘매우’.
[2]
answer: (3)
explanation: In (c), '-었-' representing the past tense and ‘-겠-’ indicating the will of the subject were written as (A), and 의문형 종결 어미 ‘-니’ as (B).
-> '-겠-' functions to indicate the will of the subject and to indicate the speaker's guess. '-겠-' in (c) does not indicate the will of the subject, but rather indicates the speaker's conjecture.
* The main purpose of the problem is to analyze 선어말 어미 and 어말 어미 to see if you can distinguish their functions correctly, which should be solved even if you do not know the function of '-겠-'.
[3]
answer: (4)
explanation: (d) is the delivery of information learned through the mother to @, which is not 'conclusion' but 'conveyance of truth'.

Hi! So I have been studying Korean for a year now and I don't know exactly what level I am at. I see a lot of people have A1 or C3 in they're bios, is that proficiency levels? Where can I test to see my own level? I love your blog ❤ thank you so much for all your patience
Hello anon! They are indeed proficiency levels! I’ll link some Korean tests here that will give you a level number (or any Korean language test)
TalkToMeInKorean
17 Minute Languages
Language Trainers
My Languages
TOPIK Mock Test
Language Hub
Cactus Language
Listen and Learn
These are just a few that I’ve found online! If you know of one that I haven’t listed here, feel free to send me a pm and I will add it to the list! Happy Learning :)
I came out of Topik test hours ago but I think the exhaustion from the trip and not sleeping well because of jetlag and also studying finally caught up with me and made me feel genuinely sick.
But while doing the listening part of the test it made me wonder, how accessible are these language tests for those with hearing, visual and speaking disabilities/limitations? I know that doesn't stop anyone from wanting and being able to learn a foreign language but how are they tested? Like are there special tests or measures the government and those who create and operate the test should take or is everyone just assuming everyone is abled? I know I sound like an ignorant butt because I am but I'm very curious.
I have been studying some past tests for TOPIK Level II and here are some vocabulary words I encountered! These particular words are from test #52 and the listening section.
1. 설거지 Dishwashing
2. 설거지통 Sink (kitchen)
3. 관광 Sightseeing
4. 체육 Physical Education
5. 문화체육관광박 Minister of Culture, Sports & Tourism
6. 조사 Investigation/ Inquiry
7. 이상 Ideal
8. 참석하다 Paticipate
9. 비율 Proportion/ Rate/ Ratio
10. 주 1 회 Weekly (Actually I am not 100% sure about this transltion can someoneconfirm this for me?)
It’s time to get back to the race and get yourself ready for the upcoming TOPIK test. Get yourself prep and never have to regret losing points over a few weird-looking vocabularies or grammars.
When you study with me at Halley’s Adventure, you will not only learn how to do the TOPIK test, but you will also learn Korean as a language it is. As I do believe that knowledge has to be obtained and made a part of you in order for you to nail the test AND apply the knowledge in real-life academic or working situation.
We will meet each other here everyday for new vocabs and grammars, and on the weekend we will revise everything that we have learned in the week. Today, let’s start off with some vocabularies and reading skill practice, tomorrow we will learn some new grammars and talk about how to improve your listening skill. There will be a lot more to come so follow me and don’t miss out on any post!
*P/S: You can download the PDF file of the vocab list and print out for better revision.
