Back in August I participated in a Mini xchange and my assigned giftee requested Korivan, and this was actually the first pose I tried, but then got worried how it would read so decided to change, finish and post later.

The Apothecary’s brow slowly raised. “That is quite the turn.” From the shadows of the hallway where Korivan stood came the slightest susurration, perhaps his hair as it shifted over his armor. “Quite strange. My eyes are the same as my brothers.”  

A hiss filled the air, followed by the slide of metal. A low light filling the hallway as the Apothecary door opened. “Did you get lost on purpose, Chapter Master Darius, in hopes that one us would find you alone?” 

Korivan moved about the small Apothecary without looking back, placing down his dataslate. “Bold. Even reformed we are still sons of Curze.”

Snippets

A random assortment of stories from the Lords of Dawn. 100 words or less.

Uzaz reaches out and pulls the stem away from the main body of the plant, deheading it. He is slow but precise, cutting each bloom directly beneath the receptacle, ever aware of how the stem would bruise and snap if he but applied a little more pressure. How the sheers in his hand might be used to do worse. Uninvited the thoughts come to him, green sticky sap turning red in his mind’s eye.

The stem done he moves on to the next, and on and on, thoughts slowly growing quiet until at last there is blissful silence.

The mind could be such a foul thing.

Korivan knew the itching behind his horns was nothing more than a phantom. Conjured by paranoia and trauma. He was clean. His body free of disease or impurity and yet the deformations argued otherwise.  They were proof. A visible stain. A sign he was genetically unfit.

He’d not realized he’d clenched his jaw until broad fingers brushed the base of his horn and startled him. Drawing him from his thoughts. The apothecary looked up and shivered at the repeated motion.

“Sleep?” Korivan pondered the request and then nodded. Sleep taking him shortly.

Talon watched Tempestus work with something akin to childlike fascination. The young Astartes had taken a shine to the techmarine in spite of lack of conversation. Talon did not mind though. Tempestus was a good listener and a joy to watch in a way others were not when they worked. Perhaps it was the act of creation rather than destruction. Or simply the marvel of Tempestus’s mind.  

Without a word Talon passed him a wrench before the other lifted his hand. Tempestus took it, a look of fondness in his eye that made Talon feel warm.

“… What are you staring at?” Darius snaps at Korivan.

“I happen to be reading the announcement behind you.” The Apothecary’s head turned slightly. “Could you not tell because of my eyes? Or because your own are so poorly adjusted to the dark of our ship?” There was the slightest edge of aggression in the Lord of Dawns voice, his lips lifting just enough to reveal his jagged teeth as he leaned a breath closer to examine the looming Astartes. 

“Ah. So you are him. The Chapter Master. The Dawnlord mentioned you might come aboard. How...” the others voice sounded like rocks rubbing together. “Unusual, to find someone of your status creeping about unattended. Did you get lost?”

Daifan:

4. Has your character ever witnessed something that fundamentally changed them? If so, does anyone else know? Oh absolutely.  I think their trial was a major turning point for them in a lot of wasy and there are people they've been able to talk to about it.

16. Which does your character idealize most: happiness or success? I think they see them thtough the same lense - I think they wouldn't consider themself to be successful if they werent' happy, and to succeed at beng happy in their life would be a major accomplishment.

21. If something tragic or negative happens to your character, do they believe they may have caused or deserved it, or are they quick to blame others? Well, they do believe o some extent that they are cursed, but they recognize that there are things that other people have control of that they do not in terms of how they encounter this in their daily life.  They certainly can recognize the accountability of other people in their suffering.

41. Does your character feel that they deserve to have what they want, whether it be material or abstract, or do they feel they must earn it first? Oh tough.  I think they do believe they deserve the things that actively work for, whreas other people may not.  I think they feel like corpseborn on the whole deserve better treatment, but that's more a social justice issue than an sense of personal entitlement.

5. On an average day, what can be found in your character’s pockets? Of course the Moon Orc Batle Dress has pockets!  Half-eaten snacks badly wrapped in napkins, some weird trinkets to give Yoni to put in the bag of trading. Random spell component-y type things?

19. What is your character’s biggest relationship flaw? Has this flaw destroyed relationships for them before? She's never had a romantic relationship really.  Honesly like... hygiene is proably her biggest ersonal flaw that impacts her relationships negatively, but that is at least somewhat out of her control.

20. In what ways does your character compare themselves to others? Do they do this for the sake of self-validation, or self-criticism? I think she does this a lot in a critical way, but she also just accepts that she'll never be as pretty or as capable or whatever than the people she spends time with.  She can be the most terrifying, when she wants to, and if that's what she has, she'll lean into it.

44. How easy or difficult is it for your character to say “I love you?” Can they say it without meaning it? Pretty easy I think, depending on the kind of love we're talking.  I do't think she would say it if she didn't believe it in the moment.  She would have an easy time saying it to friends/family, but a much harder time wth a romantic proclamation.

Korivan: 7. Does your character have recurring themes in their nightmares? I feel like yes, probaby general themes of failure in what he would consider nightmares.

21. If something tragic or negative happens to your character, do they believe they may have caused or deserved it, or are they quick to blame others? Hmm, it depends.  I don't think he would necesssarily swing to either extreme, but if he thoughth he did somethign that caused negative impct for his tribe, say, I think he'd have a difficult time with that, and if he thought someone was fucking with them hed be pretty unforgiving.

39. Has your character ever been bitten by an animal? How were they affected (or unaffected)? Oh most certainly, and probably were mildly annoyed and got on with whatever they were doing (ritual or hunt or etc).  I doubt it had any deep lasting impact.

Xandhil: 14. Does your character remember names or faces easier? Faces, but his memory is pretty good on the whole.

22. What does your character like in other people? He likes peopel who are as excited to learn new things as he is, but also people who will respect his boundaries.

23. What does your character dislike in other people? Not a big fan of people who are really overbearing and prying and loud, and people who are controlling, cruel and ignorant.
