“It is extraordinary that nobody nowadays under the stress of great troubles is turned into stone or a bird or a tree or some inanimate object; they used to undergo such metamorphoses in ancient times (or so they say), though whether that is myth or a true story I know not. Maybe it would be better to change one’s nature into something that lacks all feeling, rather than be so sensitive to evil. Had that been possible, these calamities would in all probability have turned me to stone.”
— The Alexiad, written by Anna Komnene, the daughter of the Byzantine Emperor Alexios I Komnenos, c. 1148.
“Never Forget” until the new target is those that they disagree with.
Edit: please watch this video essay by Jacob Geller. It speaks on really important points as to how “bad art” is a weapon of fascism and how it reflects the Degenerate Art Exhibition(s)
ppl on ao3 should use the "this work was inspired by" option more. so many fics out there that put links to other fics in the a/n but theres a better option.....
important addition i forgot that not everyone might know. similar to how ao3 bookmarks work, you can also link to non-ao3 fanworks using this format. so, for instance, if theres some fanart on tumblr that inspired you to write the fic? you can link that fanart to your fic!
you have permission to pick that 2 year old "abandoned" project back up. it's not mad at you for setting it aside. and maybe time and distance have helped ease or erase the things that made you put it down in the first place.
hey can you do me a favour?? Can you go get that nice pristine sketchbook or journal you've been hoarding and put some kind of mark on the first page?
Anything will do, like a smudge of graphite or a blob of ink, or perhaps a very scribbly dinosaur. Just put something there. Please, or the dinosaur will be sad.
THEY ARE!!!! It's right in the name! Like @sleepnoises said a while ago, they're for the quick putdowning of ideas! to catch the stuff that comes out of your brain!
(I don't mean to say that pretty sketchbook pages are bad, but it's important for your health to do quick scribbly stuff too. if not in a book then perhaps on small scraps of paper)
The dinosaur is very glad to see so many doodles in the notes!
Also lots of comments with very good suggestions for people who have a hard time starting, like starting on the second page, just signing & dating it, numbering the pages, or using the first page to put samples of all your usual pencils and pens and such.
Here's how I started my new sketchbook, which I got for 5 dollars at Dollarama.
I would have drawn on that first blank page instead of just signing it, but it was partially glued to the endpaper and wouldn't lie flat.
(Also, since the sketches are about making velvet mites with little wired legs, I must mention that if/when I get around to doing that it'll be posted on @vincentbriggs where all my non-dinosaur arts go.)
Can everyone who makes video content do a Deaf bitch a favor? Watch your shit with the captions on and the sound off, and then do another round of editing to fix things including but not limited to:
Captions cover the spot on the screen you put the information I need
The dialogue is captioned but not the song you have playing that the dialogue is responding to
You only captioned the person on the screen, not the person off screen who is also talking
No captioning of critical sound effects (alarms, bells, dogs barking, etc)
Speakers are not labelled at moments where it is not clear on the screen who is talking.
Captions cover the spot on the screen that you put the information I need!
Other d/Deaf people welcome to add.
This post brought to you by the fifth video tutorial I could not follow because the bad, auto-generated captions covered what I was trying to watch today.
i think we should bring this back (with some amendments ofc) if we ever needed an "internet etiquette" for the younger generations, now is the moment to remind them. purity culture kills fandom
as well as the three laws of fandom:
Don't Like, Don't Read (DL;DR), Your Kink is not My Kink And That's OK (YKINMKATO) and Ship and Let Ship
NO ONE LIVING hasn't been squicked out by something. There's over 7 billion of us, my delights and disgusts aren't universal. So I move on. Don't like the ship? Move on. Don't like____? Move on.
I am not an exception. Neither are you. I don't like it I move on and shut my gob about it because everyone everywhere is squicked out by something and they need to put the thing down and just…motor.
ID: A 3D render of 5 brightly coloured manual wheelchairs in front of a disability pride flag. White text overlaid on the image reads "Manual Wheelchair Models" "Version 2". /End ID
I've updated the wheelchair models I released for last year's Disability pride month to include adjustable shaders/materials that carry over into programs like Clip Studio Paint for folks who just want to use them as reference, and (what I hope is) a clearer guide on how to use, import/export and make alterations to them!
Each chair is designed to suit different kinds of characters with different disabilities and lifestyles. The chairs available right now are:
2 Active urban-style chairs (one of which includes a rear-mounted power assist)
1 off-road active chair
1 children's wheelchair
and 1 standard "hospital" wheelchair.
and I'm planning to add 2 more by the end of disability pride month (2025)
You can download them for free On Ko-Fi!
They are pay-what-you-want, but there's no minimum price, so if you'd like them for free, just put $0 in
Or you can download the pack directly from Google Drive
included in each download is:
the original .blend file for each wheelchair model
an .obj and .mtl file for each chair that can be imported into other 3D modelling software or into some art programs like Clip Studio Paint
A link to a user's manual that explains how to make alterations to the files for those less familiar with Blender, and how to import and save them to your Clip Studio Paint Asset/Material library on both desktop and ipad versions of CSP.
I would really like to keep updating these files and eventually include rigs for each (one of these was rigged previously, but I'm not sure what happened, it seems to have broken after one of the Blender updates)
Just like last time, they're completely free to use, with the caveat that they can't be resold or used in AI training. Credit isn't required but is greatly appreciated (as are tags so I can see art that used them!)
