Opera asks: 11 & 14!
Thank you for the ask!
11: Opera you would most like to direct (including any production concepts you've been harboring and feel like sharing)
I'm gonna say the ring cycle. I have a concept that I used to apply to universities but honestly don't want to share here yet. So far only Rheingold is fully written out - that was the opera the uni asked for - and I want to finish the other parts before I share. It's theme is the "Mythos Wagner" and would be perfect for the 150th anniversary of Wagner's death. I really hope I find the time to actually finish the whole thing soon.
Other than that I feel like I need to do Meistersinger at some point. And Die Tote Stadt. I don't have a concept just yet but I love this work so much.
14: Opera premiere you'd most want to go back in time to see
Oh! I really hoped that someone would ask this question. My first thought was Der Rosenkavalier in Dresden because I read so many old newspaper articles about who attended and what huge spectacle it was. And - another Strauss - Intermezzo. Just to see Pauline's face when she realises her husband has written an opera about a fight they had years ago because apparently he surprised her. And my beloved Tosca, obviously. I'm actually debating going on a trip to Rome to see the places from the opera, so it should be on my time travel bucket list as well.
