it is considered so taboo in the netherlands to call anyone or anything racist and it's so fucking infuriating! even when black people are finally invited to talkshows to defend their argument that zwarte piet is blackface and hurtful to black people, such tv shows invite a white 'tegenstander' (? someone who disagrees) to chat on the table as if their uninformed, bigoted and privileged self should have a say on the matter. yesterday, white supremacists have rallied and smashed the windows of a building where an anti-zwarte piet group held a meeting. the mayor of The Hague has stated that the attack was "not an infringement on the public space" and therefore he decided not to comment on the nature of the attack. not once have i seen dutch media that isn't like, websites such as OneWorld or other leftist platforms, comment on something or someone being racist and stating this as a certainty rather than something that might possibly be considered such by some people. i also recently discovered that a Dutch city's 'unliveable meter' thing uses 'presence of non-western immigrants' as its most important variable and i'm so fucking disgusted. god not to forget when there was so much controversy over the initial title of the anti racism march of 2018 in amsterdam being 'no racists in the councils' and """leftist"" (liberal) and other liberal political parties deciding not to join the march bc how DARE someone call politicians racist. yes i might be extra angry rn bc i kept getting ads on youtube for joining the police three times in a row.
