Vegas twists the ring on his finger and replays the scene in his mind again. Porsche, wounded and vulnerable, and Kinn knelt by his side. At Vegas’s feet. He wonders what would have happened if he’d had time to pull the trigger– first on Porsche, then Kinn.
Chances are he would have been killed. They were still outnumbered on enemy grounds, he probably wouldn’t have even made it out of the garage.
His father would still be dead. And whatever future he had envisioned for his son had died with him.
Still– he can’t help but think about it. If he’d succeeded, how would the main family ring have felt on his finger, instead?
“We’re back!” Macau’s shout jolts Vegas back to the present, where his curry has reached a gentle simmer.
Pete shuffles into the kitchen just behind Macau, smile widening when his eyes meet Vegas’s.
“This smells great,” he says appreciatively. “I think we got everything you wanted.” He places a full bag on the countertop next to where Vegas is working.
“You’re everything I want,” Vegas responds without thinking, and grins at both Pete’s automatic blush and Macau’s overexaggerated gagging.
“Stop it,” Pete mumbles. He places a chaste kiss on Vegas’s cheek before starting to put the groceries away.
“Phi, can you help me? I don’t get this homework.” Macau has managed to splay what looks like the entire contents of his backpack on the kitchen table in the seconds Vegas was looking away.
“In a minute, this is nearly done.”
“Do you want these washed?” Pete asks, gesturing to some fresh herbs.
“I’ll do it, you sit down.” He removes his ring and rolls his sleeves up, running some water to rinse the herbs. “Maybe you can help Macau.”
“With English?” Both Pete and Macau say incredulously. Vegas laughs at the offended look on Pete’s face as they begin to bicker good naturedly, leaving Vegas to return to his cooking.
It’s not until much later, when dinner has been eaten and the dishes are being collected up, that Vegas realises he never put the ring back on.
ending at the ending <3 this has been such a fun little anniversary project, it felt right to once again leave off with my favourite boys living their best post-canon life
Thank you @kprecfest for making me finally start putting together all the vp rec lists I’ve been planning! (And also just in general, let me say it again, what a fantastic idea I love you.) There are so many amazing fics in this fandom, but let’s start with canon compliant fics set during season 1, including everything except the post-credits scene, which will be a separate list.

Drowning, and other Metaphors by lewdhandholding (E, 8k)
Vegas has never experienced an afterglow that burns like an oil fire, a sudden and dangerous thing that he can’t quite remember how best to put out past the panic. It doesn’t help that Pete’s smile is like a torrent of cool water on his feverish skin, making the flames jump higher.
It makes Vegas want to do something dangerous that he’s never really been good at before – it makes him want to take care of Pete. Problem is, he doesn’t really know how.
i want it all by devoutpete (E, 5k)
“It’s too hot…” Pete repeated. He wanted to cry. This was taking too long.
When their eyes met again, Vegas smiled. It was almost…sweet. “I told you already,” without warning, he poked the blade into Pete’s skin, red peeking from the puncture. “You’re hot because,” he carried on with a sudden, slow drag of the blade spanning a few inches, “It’s inside of you.”

Vegas was sick of Pete's inhibitions getting in the way, but he knew just how to fix that.
take me to your planet by @any-open-eye (E, 1.3k)
Pete’s face is doing something. He thinks he might be smiling. He feels fucking high.
What the hell is happening to him? He knows afterglow and this isn't it. If it was, he'd be way more into sex. There were people in high school and then one long-term girlfriend a few years ago, but she never—it was nothing like this. This is like… that blissful moment between sleeping and waking when you're conscious of your body but not yet of your mind. Just a vessel of receptors and processes. Electrified meat.
“That was good, right?” Vegas's hands are on him. “Tell me it was good.”
(more under the cut, it got a bit... long)
Sharing Different Heartbeats by @raelle-writing (E, 58k)
Of course Vegas noticed Pete.
But not with much weight. Sure, Pete was hot. But so were all of the rest of Kinn’s bodyguards. That wasn’t notable. It wasn’t worth more than a passing once-over, or an absent glance at the man’s ass in those suits they insisted on wearing. He had a nice ass, but it didn’t stick in Vegas’ mind. It was passing lust, nothing more. And he certainly wasn’t hotter than the other bodyguards– not Porsche, for example.
The only thing notable about Pete was that he had a surprisingly soft, cute face, and a sunny, disarming smile. He looked far too soft for his job.
But he was Tankhun’s head bodyguard, and one of the men that Kinn often tapped for important missions. Which meant that the cute, soft face was hiding real talent and skill.
So yes, Vegas noticed Pete. But it didn’t mean anything.

How Deep it Goes by @giraffeter (E, 4k)
It’s only been a couple of days but Vegas is already coming to crave the way Pete looks at him when he enters the room, the alertness that enters his body, the wary skitter of his eyes to Vegas’ face.
“I want to watch a show,” Vegas says. He sets the tote bag he’s carrying down on the bed. Pete stares at it. “And you’re going to put one on for me.”

write somewhere deep. by @evashougouki (M, 2k)
“All clean,” Vegas says, like Pete doesn’t know what he’s planning.
“Am I?” Pete asks, though he’s unsure why he says it, why he pokes. Vegas is silent for a second, silent enough that Pete can hear his breath hitch. His laugh has an air of breathlessness to it then.
“You’re such a fascinating creature.” Lips come to lay up against the side of his neck, just resting. Or lingering, maybe. Pete shivers but does not have the energy to fight it. Slippery hands slide between his thighs, pushing stinging soap into the still too-raw burns there. The shock of it is rapturous.

A Close Shave by @fleet-off (M, 4k)
The bathroom walls feel claustrophobically tight, and Vegas’s stomach is a ball of leaden frustration poised to turn molten. He wants to shatter the mirror with his fist, to yell at Pete to stand up straight, to curse his uselessness--just another one of Vegas’s failures.
The razor sits on the edge of the sink.
This was a bad idea.

Vegas gives Pete a shave.
Dare to be Bad by @raelle-writing (E, 7k)
“I think you want a reason to have to hide your skin, don’t you, Pete?” Vegas drawled, and Pete made a sudden, surprised, unmistakably aroused noise as Vegas shoved a knee between Pete’s thighs, pressing suddenly, threateningly against his groin. Pete couldn’t stop his breaths from coming a little faster, heart racing, cock already responding in his pants, even as he tried not to let it. Fuck, he couldn’t remember the last time he’d been this turned on.
Vegas’ lips curled up in another lazy smirk, dark gaze still locked on Pete’s face. “Aren’t you tired of playing the perfect little bodyguard, Pete?” he murmured, voice low and sultry. “Don’t you want to be bad for me?”

An Interlude in the Space Between Light and Shadow by lewdhandholding (M, 3k)
One of Kinn’s guards is a step ahead of Vegas’s attempt to flee the diamond auction venue, so Vegas decides to indulge his anger and frustration for a moment. After all, Pete makes such a perfect little chew toy. It might make Vegas feel a little better if he can get him to squeak.

Pete has managed to lie to Khun — and Kinn, and Porsche — about where he's been. He knows without a shred of doubt that he will not be able to lie like that to Chan.
past the last exit by jumun (M, 1.6k)
Pete thinks about Vegas’ face, wonders what Vegas would have done if he’d brought the knife just an inch higher, wonder what would've happened if he hadn’t goaded him. He knows he did it intentionally, because being able to push and prod at someone isn’t something he’s indulged in in years, because it's difficult to talk about that with someone much less have a mutual understanding.
Pete did not have a mutual understanding with Vegas.

“Hm,” again. Vegas has stopped twisting, but he hasn’t let go, still tugging idly, crouched over Pete like a predatory bird. The pain is cold and strange and Pete thinks his dick might be leaking. “I want to eat you,” Vegas says absently. “Cut you open and eat you. How did that feel?”
cut me open and tell me what's inside by @wegathpete (E, 3k)
In retrospect, Pete will find it funny. A self-proclaimed man of honesty, yet so unwilling to look deep within himself, afraid of what he might find beneath the carefully crafted and polished surface. Keeping so much of himself locked away, behind bars, like a condemned prisoner, a chained up, feral animal, unworthy of being seen by the world. Is he hiding from himself or everyone else? Would the world like him for who he is or hate him for who he isn’t?

“Don’t try to hide it,” Vegas murmurs, in the voice that has started doing weird things to Pete’s insides. “I know you’re suffering. Let it out.”
Pete wants to hit him, wants to scream, wants to yank these stupid chains down from the ceiling and set fire to this house and wants to kneel at Vegas’ feet and beg him to whip him again. And – fuck – he wants Vegas to cook for him some more. And to sit in the garden together, for a nice reason this time. And to tease him about having stupid books. And to feed him another pill with his breath warm on Pete’s mouth and all that tightly-leashed strength hovering above him and make Pete hard because of another person for the first time in his life.

Chapter 18 of The Road Not Taken is finally here! Vegas and Kinn have a talk, Macau discovers he is part of the family, Chay nails his interview. “I’m afraid that I’m not a very good person,” Porsche says, suddenly. Maybe he thinks that if he says it out loud, the confession will negate the sin. He wonders when speaking to Kinn had become like speaking to a priest. “I’m afraid that my love isn’t worth very much.”
Confusion, and disbelief — a rare combination on him — enter Kinn’s eyes. “It’s all I want,” he says, soft. “It’s all I ever want.”
“No, Kinn.” Porsche shakes his head, squeezing his eyes shut. “Don’t, please. Don’t be too nice to me. I don’t deserve it.”
“I can’t.”
Could you do #100 and kimchay for the 100 kisses? Thank you!
hello!! i’m sorry for how delayed this is but thank you so much for feeding my kimchay brainrot. i love them so much <3 you can read the fic down below or here on ao3
100. ''it's always been you'' kisses
There is no time for this Kim thinks as he cages Porchay against the blood speckled wall and yet— and yet, Kim presses in closer anyways, ignoring both the warning sirens blaring inside his mind and outside the building. The pretty little whimper that escapes from Chay’s mouth when they break apart for air just makes Kim dive in for another round, it just makes him dig his nails deeper into Chay’s waist as he tugs them closer so that they are chest to chest, hearts beating in sync as they kiss in the middle of the gun fight happening outside.
There is something so intricately vile about claiming Chay like this while his hands were still stained crimson, soiling the cream colored sweater that was so big it swallowed up his lean frame. The same hands that were full of ugly callouses from years of plucking guitar strings and stealing away human life were aching to slide and touch Chay in the most unsinful of ways, completely at odds with the commandeering way of his tongue as it probed into Chay’s welcoming mouth.
Kim was already on an express train for hell with absolutely no chance at receiving a return ticket. Finally giving into his desperate desires pales in comparison to everything else . So, as Chay breaks away from the kiss to catch his breath, Kim uses this time to slip under the soft fabric. His heart stutters in his chest as he presses the tips of his finger to Chay’s ribcage.
Chay is heaving, trembling even , as Kim traces his fingers across the expanse of skin, committing each jagged dip and secretly hating himself for staining his milky soft skin with the sticky substance of blood. But Chay doesn’t push him away—the way his body was shuddering wasn’t in fear, Kim confirmed that as he glanced down and noticed the glazed over look in Chay’s eyes, the flush high on his cheekbones, and the way his lips looked so beautiful when they were swollen and glistening with spit.
“It’s always been you.” Kim’s voice is husky when he speaks. He’s not even sure Chay could hear it over the deafening sounds of gunfire and the shouts of Porsche somewhere in a distance, hysterical and two seconds away from burning down the world itself unless his baby brother is returned to safety.
Judging by the way Chay reaches a shaky hand up to touch Kim’s cheek, judging by the way his eyes flutter close, he knows. And in case he doesn't, Kim closes the small distance between the two of them and kisses Chay like a desperate man in search of salvation.
Kim’s hands continue to trace. Porchay continues to whimper. Porsche continues to go insane with grief and fear. The gunfire never eases up. There are bullet holes in the wall and a litany of dead bodies sprawled all across the room in which they hid away in. This was not anything close to what Porchay deserves. This is what Kim has always feared; that he would stain the last pure and beautiful thing in his life, but fuck it, he thinks. He doesn’t want to go another minute without making sure Porchay knows that from the moment Kim laid eyes on him as Kim and not Wik, that was it. Whether he liked it or not that angelic smile unlocked a part of Kim that he never realized still existed.
“It’s always…” Chay tightens the grip he had on Kim’s leather jacket, daring the older man to try and move away, pulling his body impossibly closer as he turns his head to the side to pant out the rest of his sentence, “…P’Kim, it’s always been you.” When he turns back around and they lock gazes Kim feels a burning sensation warming up every fiber of his being. He drags his fingertips higher and higher until he finds the spot he was looking for.
Directly on Chay’s chest, right against where his heart is thumping wildly in his chest. Kim lays his palm and keeps it there, trying to wrap his brain around the fact that Chay exists and that he’s not another figment of his imagination. He tips his head down until it touches Chay’s own forever, swiping his tongue out across his bottom lip just to taste Chay again.
“I’m sorry.”
Chay doesn’t say it’s okay P’Kim, I absolve you of all the guilt from when you shattered my heart like the cruel monster you are. Kim never expects him too. He’s unsure what he expects but Chay brushing his lips against Kim’s in the most tender of ways is something he was completely caught off guard by. He can handle the bruising-worthy kisses and the taste of blood when Chay got a little too eager and nipped at his bottom lip but he can’t handle Chay kissing him like he’s something precious and worthy.
Kim memorizes the feeling of Porchay Kittisawat’s heartbeat and steals another quick kiss, just as tender as the one Porchay bestowed on him just moments before.
And then he steps back without warning, turning his body to the side to hide how affected he was by this whole thing. “We should go.” Kim says because there really is no time for this.
“We…should…go.” Porchay agrees, sucking in a ragged breath. Kim definitely does not look over his shoulder to stare at the way Chay presses his plush pink lips together as he pouts slightly.
Kim sheds the skin of the last few minutes as he removes the gun from his waistband and makes sure it was ready to go. He was back to being the Kim again who never hesitates before pulling a trigger. The softness that Porchay himself created inside of Kim was gone, now. Just as his ears perk up to listen for any movement outside and he moves to the locked door, Chay reaches out to tug on his sleeve.
Porchay’s voice is barely a whisper but Kim hears him crystal clear. “P’Kim? Are you going to leave me again?”
Porchay desires absolute certainty—he doesn’t deserve any more half-assed promises or lies. Kim knows this. Still, he says, staring at a bullet lodged in the door, “I won’t.”
It’s silent for a few moments, save from the chaos happening outside. When Chay speaks again his voice is louder, more confident, and there is an edge of playfulness that is undoubtedly used to disguise the hurt he feels inside. “Good,” he laughs. It sounds wet and broken . It was the most beautiful melody Kim has ever heard in his life. “You better not leave me again or I’ll let Porsche shoot you in the leg.”
“I’m not scared of your brother.” There is a smile tugging on Kim’s lips as he says this. “ Now you, my angel, I know you are a different story.”
There is no time for this.
And yet—before Kim leaves the room with his gun blazing and morals completely gone he spins back around and kisses Porchay senselessly one more time just for good measure.
In dramas there’s always a Moment: the two leads look at each other and you just know they’re going to kiss. Is this a Moment? Tankhun isn’t sure how to tell without the swelling music and the camera pulling back to perfectly frame their faces.
Hi, i just wanted to say I love all your fic. I read them all and can't stop thinking about them, the finished ones and the WIPs.
This is the first thing I saw when I woke up and I have been floating about since then. wdym you mean you read everything and you liked everything????? you can't stop thinking about them???? this is like the best compliment ever. I've been in a writing stump for quite a while but i feel so motivated right now. Thank you!
