Being a Black kpop fan is so exhAusTing FUCK
I've accepted it at this point 😂😂 there's no turning back
when i look at the for you tab, my dash keeps being like "oh hey 😊 we saw you're a kpop fan 😍 here's a post you might like!!! 🌟 this person wants new friends!!! 💖💖 that could be you 😘😘" and almost every time i'm like "oh okay let's see what they say-" and it's someone being like "OH HEY HI I'M A KPOP FAN LOOKING FOR MOOTS AND I'VE BEEN INTO KPOP FOR EIGHT YEARS AND I LIKE XYZ GROUPS-" and i'm like "oh okay cool yeah i like all those groups sure-" and then they're like "AND I'M 16 YEARS OLD!!!!!" and i feel the dry dust in my bones as my joints audibly creak as i fall out of my chair, slain by the fact i could easily be that person's mother and i do not follow them and move on with my day
how to enjoy stanning (any kpop group)
1. Stay away from Twitter and tiktok.
Twitter is known for fanwars, all sorts of drama within the fandom as well, akgae fights, the most vicious and hateful comments targeted towards the artist.
Tiktok is one big misinformation machine. They spread all sorts of misinformation out of context and it’s an echo chamber where people don’t care to fact-check and start problems.
2. On that note, tumblr has a more stress-free, drama free fan interaction
Mainly gifs, fanarts, moodboard, fanfics, etc. you might not know the latest hashtag trending and “apologize to ___” or which fandom is fighting over what. But without those gossips, you can curate your feed however you like without those drama popping up on your timeline.
3. Focus on watching the artist content
There are plenty youtube content to watch. I’m still behind on skz-talker. V-lives, live performances, behind the scenes, interviews, etc. rather than consuming short clips fans made and people fighting about those videos, maybe it’s better to go directly to those videos and leave positive comments/feedback.
4. Steer away from competition and numbers
Kpop fans get so competitive about number of views, awards, albums, hitting the new record, etc. of course wanting to support your group is not bad! But often, people use this to flex during fanwars and call another group “flop.” Maybe we can listen to music to enjoy them, watch mv cuz we appreciate the art, and buy albums because we genuinely want to without the pressure for the “next record.”
5. Lastly, have other hobbies in your life
I know hyunjin also mentioned this to stays, to have other hobbies other than stray kids. I think this applies to all other kpop fans. Sometimes people get so invested in their group that their whole identity is based on that group (which is why they get the satisfaction boosting about their numbers and calling others “flops.”) have at least one another hobby than stanning kpop. It can be as simple as going on a daily walk, reading a book, learning a dance, baking, whatever it is. This would make us be less invested in fanwars or rumors.
The fact that SEVENTEEN has thirteen members is my villain origin story.
The only word I know in this fucking song is “libido” but I’m not gonna let that stop me from singing along!!
Also…is their concept just…horny on main? Is that a valid kpop concept? Because goddamn.
