Kit’s Secret Fire Message - Second Intermission
Masterlist
“I have something for you,” Kit said, his voice a soft whistle of leaves, rustling Ty’s hair like the memory of wind lifting up a curtain.
“What is it?”
Ty turned his head towards Kit, his eyes catching the bright morning light, sparkling like hard diamonds as they focused on Kit’s lips.
Kit pulled his hand out of the pocket of his jacket and traced the rough texture of the box he held with his forefinger.
Ty’s eyes zoomed on the small object, anticipation unraveled on his beautiful face like the petals of a rare flower. It was like one of those nature TV programs Kit watched when there was absolutely nothing else on, where you can see a time-lapse video of a flower blossoming. It always felt like magic to Kit, but never like at this moment, when a smile was tugging at Ty’s lips like the ribbons on a present.
Kit knew that pulling out a box from his pocket would have a completely different reaction from anyone else, but not with Ty. It was one of the things he loved most about him, how every gesture was perceived as what it was, not what it was supposed to be.
He handed him the package and saw Ty’s face transform as a smile took hold of it.
With long, steady fingers, Ty traced the gold foil embossed on the dark surface - 221B. His eyes met Kit’s and a hesitant question folded into their silvery depths.
“Open it”, Kit egged him on.
In the box lay a small oval pin, its edges a glimmering gold, enveloping a white circle with a black silhouette of Sherlock Holmes.
“I’ve noticed centurions like pins”, Kit said with a soft smirk.
“You’re thinking about Diego, are you?” Ty asked with what came out only as a half-hearted scowl.
“A bit, yeah” he confessed.
“I don’t have a ‘Primi Ordines’ pin”, Ty noted.
“But you will.” Kit tucked a stray lock of hair behind Ty’s ear. “If anyone will, it’ll be you.”
A shiver went through Ty, slow and revealing, and Kit fought the urge to pull him closer and Kiss away the strain of the unknown from his doubtful eyes.
“Where did you get it from?” Ty asked.
“From… 221B Baker Street.” Kit answered with a shrug like it should’ve been obvious.
“You went there?” Ty’s eyes lit with excitement.
“Yeah… years ago. I actually did the tour and everything.”
“There’s a tour?” Ty’s voice rose an octave, and Kit wasn’t sure if it was still excitement or he was honestly mad at him for going without him.
“Yeah.. it’s not much, mind you. The floor kept creaking and I couldn’t stop thinking that if you would’ve been there, you would just correct them on how it’s not realistic to have books written about Watson in Watson’s room, or that the bullet holes in Sherlock’s wall aren’t deep enough to be made by an actual gun, or that plastic is not a material they would have used for cream containers back then. It was torture.”
Ty stared at him, his mouth gaped open in silent astonishment. Kit wondered if it was a good sign, or if he should be offended that Ty possibly found Kit’s ability to make such distinctions as a surprise.
“Why… why did you go there? Why did you get that pin?” He asked, his voice small and hoarse.
Kit made a fist and watched his knuckles go white. He pulled tighter, wanting to feel the pain, some pain, to mask the memory of those days. But he knew it wouldn’t work, nothing ever did. He fought his way through countless demons and it didn’t ease the increasing dread in his heart that he might never get to see Ty again. That he wasn’t wanted, that it was all a dream.
“I missed you. I missed you so much it..” He shook his head in frustration, trying to find a way to remember without sinking into that blinding darkness.
“Sometimes I couldn’t sleep. Sometimes I couldn’t wake up. I was scared that if too much time went by, and too much happened, it would start to feel like I imagined you. So I went to the only place I could think of, other than the institute, that made me feel like you were there. Like I was close to you again, Watson and Holmes. And even though it was lame, it kinda worked. Surrounded by their mysteries and Sherlock’s weird collection of smoking pipes, I could almost feel you beside me.”
He couldn’t look up, couldn’t let Ty see the grief on his face. He knew he heard it in his voice, but he didn’t want to risk the possibility that it would be mirrored on Ty’s face. The possibility that their years apart left their marks on Ty as well as on him. The fact that they were together right now meant that it did, but it still didn’t make him ready to face those evidence or Ty’s pain.
“And the pin?” Ty whispered into the silence between them.
“I.. don’t know. I just had to.”
Kit looked back into that day and remembered that almost invisible bubble of emotion that floated up his heart with the weight of the golden pin in his palm.
“Maybe it meant that I believed I would see you again, someday. Maybe it meant I had hope.”
Ty took a step closer to Kit and reached for him with his arms. He obliged without hesitation, stepped in the barricading circle of Ty’s strong arms and let them curl around his waist and dig deep under his shirt. The feel of his fingers on his bare skin made him breathe a little easier, a little steadier. When he looked up at Ty, his heart was lighter in his chest.
“That night was the first time I sent you a fire message.”
Ty pressed his cheek to Kit’s right temple, his stubble tickled the soft skin under his eyes.
“Is this because I’m going back to the Scholomance?” He whispered in his ear, his voice a tender in a way that Kit had never heard before. It made his heart hurt again but in a different way. A way he welcomed.
“I wanted you to have something that would remind you of me. Of us.” He whispered back, shy all of a sudden, like he was admitting that he was doodling Ty’s name all over his diary with hearts and arrows.
Ty lifted Kit’s chin with a delicate finger, making him meet his eyes in one of his hypnotic stares, those that pinned Kit in place and made him forget how to exercise the actual mechanics of inhaling and exhaling. It was maddening, it was exquisite.
“Thank you, for the pin. I love it. But…” he paused while he tried to find the right words, the right amount of words, Kit knew. But the weight of that one word, but, made his heart ring a sudden alarm.
“I knew who I was since I could remember. Even after Livvy died, though I fought it. I thought I had to have her to be who I am… though I always knew who I was, who I wanted to be. But after I met you I changed without even noticing. In those few weeks we spent together, you gave me something I didn’t know I needed, and it wasn’t about you being Watson. It wasn’t even you being my friend. I only realized it when I lost you. I missed you too, Kit. I missed your questions and your answers, I missed the weight of your arms around me and the sound of your breathing when you fell asleep. I missed who I was when I was around you. You see, Kit? You have nothing to worry about. I don’t need a pin to remember you… you are as much a part of me as I am.”
Kit yanked Ty’s shirt and pulled him closer, crushing their lips together in a bruising kiss. There was no room in his body for anything other than the feel of Ty’s fingers laced through his hair, the taste of his tongue in his mouth, the numbing pain of teeth grazing lips and bodies melting into one.
He didn’t want to break their kiss, he couldn’t, but Ty held his face between his hands and pulled them an inch apart. Kit grunted at the sudden loss when a sharp breath eased him into silence.
“I love you, Kit. I love you.” Ty hissed, in anger, in desperation, in a furious promise that Kit will never let go of, for as long as he lived.

This chapter contains sexual content. I’ll take this opportunity to remind you that this fic takes place in TWP’s timeframe, in which both Kit and Ty are over 18.
It’s not an overly explicit chapter, but if you are not comfortable with sexual content, I’ll advise you to stop after the magnificent word “Christopher”.
I really hope you’ll enjoy it 🖤
Hi darlings 🐼 Just wanted to share that I’ve started posting on AO3!

Kit stared at the crowded mess in front of him and sighed a long, heavy sigh.
Thirteen scared, dirty and starved looking kids huddled together, barely touching but obviously drawing comfort from one another. Most of them cried when Kit woke them up, even though he tried to be as gentle as he knew how. With Mina, Kit didn’t have to try and earn her trust.. it was more the other way around. As much as he loved her, he was rather wary of forming any attachments to her when she was firstborn. He didn’t know if Jem and Tessa would still want him after they realized how much work raising a child will be.. not that Kit was an authority on the matter. Tessa had children before, but that was over a hundred years ago, she could possibly forget the nightly crying and feeding routines, and the amount of attention an infant demanded of its surroundings. But they never gave him a reason to doubt their love, and Mina never gave him a chance to go a foot away from her as soon as one of them entered a room.
Now the small group was hiding behind Ty, who was evidently trying to hide how uncomfortable that made him feel. Kit studied him more carefully and wondered if anyone else would have noticed Ty’s discomfort. It was clear to him in the way his fingers trembled at his sides, the small crease between his thick eyebrows and how he bit his lower lip every few seconds.. but he kept his general expression almost completely blank. His eyes kept darting between the kids and the darkness that led outside the hall.
He’s still scared, he doesn’t trust himself after what happened. The realization sent cold anger through Kit’s blood. Ty didn’t feel comfortable in these social situations, but he tried with the Eidolon demon that disguised itself as one of the children. He put himself in a vulnerable position so he would be able to protect the child, and when he turned out to be a goddamned shapeshifter from hell, Ty probably felt helpless; stripped out of his own powers, his ability to see what others couldn’t or wouldn’t, to deduce the unimaginable. He was a fighter betrayed by his most trusted weapon.
And Kit helped it happen. He could have been the mediator, talk to the child who wasn’t even a child and maybe let Ty do what he did best - detect. But he couldn’t risk the chance that he wouldn’t.. it wasn’t just his life on the line, it was thirteen other children’s, and Ty’s. Ty’s, the one person who’s life mattered the most.

It was near dawn when Ty finally fell asleep.
Kit was exhausted, the lids of his eyes weighed like those years he lived cemented in darkness, but he couldn’t will them to shut close.
They spent the night in each other’s arms, the same as they did in the two weeks that had past since that day in the cave. They kissed and talked and uncovered every secret that still lay hidden between them. Kit had told him about The First Heir, about his mother and the dangerous paths she took just to keep him alive. Ty had told him about the Scholomance, about how he and Livvy had struggled with their new lives together, although that might be more true regarding the former than the latter. They relearned how to speak without words, how to touch the right places, to melt their bones into one lingering kiss over a hipbone or an exposed neck.
Kit looked at Ty as the first rays of sun netted through the softness of his hair like cobwebs and exhaled a breath he didn’t notice he was holding.
When he slept, Ty’s face transformed itself as if with magic, and he looked so much like that fifteen-year-old boy Kit had first met… had first loved. He felt so unworthy, being able to witness it. Ty had given him so much with every passing day, with every press of lips and fingers to his skin. Kit felt like he was living, truly living, for the first time in his life.

“Kit!”
Ty woke up as if from a nightmare. Maybe it was, he didn’t know. The frayed images of the night were already fading away, tugging the remains of his subconsciousness with a taunting realization.
Something was very wrong, and it had to do with Kit.
I miss Kit so much and I miss Ty so much and GOD i miss KITTY SO MUCH!! I'm sorry to bother you but would you maybe have any fic recs for them?? Also! Do we know if TWP is confirmed?? Sometimes I worry if maybe it was like a dream that came to me aha
I feel you, my darling.. I miss them too, very much.
As for fics - well, except my KSFM fic that is now complete 😉 I really recommend some of @thorndale ‘s fics, and of course @tsc-living has a whole repertoire of Kitty fics that are heartbreakingly beautiful. And I would be doing you and others an incredible injustice without mentioning my dearest @hallowedthorns and their beautiful, poetic ficlets.
If you’re up to visiting ao3 I would recommend Kallisto Grey and her amazing LONG Kitty fics (fair smut warning. It’s really good, but nsfw). This and this are two ongoing fics that I follow and enjoy :)
There’s another fic in ao3 that I can’t remember atm but is soooooo beautiful, I honestly cried when it was done. @hallowedthorns do you remember which one I’m talking about? The one that sounds like philosophic poetry?
I’ll dm it to you if I remember ❤️ hope I helped making the wait a bit easier!
And yes, it’s confirmed and happening. Fear not!
