Sporting a comfortable set of gym wear Sohee praise the spring season, the warm weather a perfect end of the month of April. The crop top reveal toned abs yet allow for the chilly breeze to brush over her skin, leaving goosebumps as a result. It isn’t cold outside but ultimately, that wind cool her down nonetheless as she prepare a camera to record.

Sohee doesn’t have much confidence in her dancing skills. Now, she isn’t awful, but she’s far way from where she want to be, from where she need to be. That is why she decided to make this particular recording without a friendly audience, so that she can make so mistakes without someone watching behind the scenes. She want this to be perfect.

Not that it will anyway, because it’s meant to be a kkap version, she is supposed to look dorky and extra during the entire video. Yet, she found a quiet and abandoned corner of her beloved neighbourhood. The quiet part isn’t too necessary since she will put an audio file over the tape anyway but it’s nice nonetheless, that way she can concentrate well.

The first ten seconds she’s supposed to have a chair but instead she walk in a crouched kind of manner, her hands swing swiftly through their position in an expressive way. She isn’t given any time to adjust before the next song come up and it’s one of her favourites, ‘O’. Her moves shift from being soft to very sharp, most of the dance still done by the arms.

One more, two more, three more songs play from DBSK, including Rising sun. Only five to ten seconds are played of each song before the next start playing, which makes this somewhat of intense cardio session. Her stamina is high though, from running once or twice a day, so she’s planning to deliver the cover with a steady rate of energy. Next up is--

   Super Junior!

The first song up is ‘Miracle’, then “Mamacita”, then “Sorry Sorry”. The latter of these have an iconic dance that probably everyone know to heart, Sohee executing it better than she would have expected to. She’s having so much fun moving to the beat, making sure that she doesn’t slip up as she has little to no time preparing for the next song. 

It’s tiresome, but it’s so much fun. Sohee is smiling throughout the entire dance cover. There’s only one song left before switching over to a girl group, one of the most famous ones. CHICHI start off strong with a charismatic pose, arms crossing over the chest with a couple of nods of her hear. “Yeah, yeah,” she voice along as she follow the choreo.

‘Gee’ is another insanely famous song and Sohee know this too by heart, even more than all those other songs she’s been through already and the ones coming up. It feel as though it’s a strong insult should one not know the highlights of this particular song. If honest however, one of Sohee’s absolute favourite songs is ‘Hoot’ and that is a song away.

As she dance she make a mental note to make a vocal cover of ‘Hoot’, and had she had time to think any further she would ask herself why she hasn’t made one already. She has no time for that though, and the songs keep switching every five to ten seconds still. There is a lot of history to press into a humble four minutes, but it’s doable. Barely.

She hasn’t even come halfway through. One part of her regret doing this because it feels as if she’s been dancing forever but the other part of her love it, she love all of the groups that she is going through, although some of the songs aren’t her favourites. There are many that isn’t included like Son Dambi, Jung Nara, Kangta... but still, many are.

what's something you would like to tell your labelmates? members and kt trainees?

          “ are you sure you want to ask me this? because i could go on for hours. i mean it, hours. ” she’s already quite talkative in the first place but to add on that it’s for kt trainees or her group members, it’d be nearly impossible to get her to shut up if she gets going. whether it’s praise, unneeded advice, constructive criticism, wishes, anything    —   she has plenty to offer. “ i think i’d start with … i’m glad you’re here. i’m glad that no matter how you got here, you’re here and that means more than it seems like sometimes. there’s going to be ugly days, boring days, even days where you might think of walking out the door. maybe there won’t be days like that. maybe there’ll be days you feel like you belong, those are the ones that are going to be worth it. whether you feel it now or you don’t find it here, i hope you have that kind of day. i hope you live that kind of life. i hope that you feel even a semblance of the amount of heart everyone in kt has, whether they show it in a friendly way or if they’re … not so outgoing and soft. ” 

          humming softly, she isn’t too sure what she’d say next. “ i think . . . to be honest, i’d rather talk to each person and talk about how they feel. whatever they need to hear or want to hear, i’d want to help with that. i think telling them that is what i want most, actually. i want everyone to feel like you can find home here, even if it’s not as great as your first home or someone you consider home. if anyone’s uncomfortable or sad here, i think that’d be horrible. just having someone to be able to talk to . . . i think we all need it, myself included so i always want to tell them that. if i were to go into more . . . i think i’d have to be more specific so that’s it or i’ll keep going for way too long. ”

When you arrive at KT Entertainment, one of your trainers immediately directs you to Katie Lee’s office. As expected, CEO Lee is seated behind her desk. She directs you to the empty chair across from her, and when you take the seat you recognize the man next to you as the lawyer who was present on the day you auditioned for the company.

“It’s been two years now, right, Sooyoung-ssi?” Ms. Lee says, glancing down at her paperwork as if to make sure it was true. “From where you started to where you are now- well, the fact you’re preparing for debut should say enough.” She closes the beige folder and sets it to one side, revealing a different set of paperwork underneath. “We have another contract for you to sign today and I hope you won’t back out now that we’re so close to your dreams. You know what to do.” She pushes the paperwork toward you, turning it to face you; it’s just as you remember, even down to the colored Post-It flags sticking out from between the pages, showing you exactly where to sign.

may 30th, the day that she’s unintentionally been counting down to from the moment she signed her first contract, still surrounded by a whirlwind of emotions from the mgas and more than overwhelmed by a future ahead of her. there have been ups and downs, that’s for sure- and quite a few moments where sooyoung was pretty sure she wouldn’t even make it to this point.

yet here she is, sitting in front of katie lee, with another two years being offered, and a debut practically guaranteed. 

and she chokes.

“thank you, sajangnim. i’m honored to be offered two more years here.”

she’s thankful that they’re allowed time to think on resigning, though she’s not sure that anyone in the room appreciates when she quietly thanks them and leaves without signing right away. (truth be told, she’s not sure why she wouldn’t.) but she goes about her day as if nothing happened, all the while holding the thought in the back of her head that in a roundabout way, katie lee must be proud of her somehow- she wouldn’t be in the lineup for debut if she weren’t, right?

but still, she takes the time to reflect on two years spent, with the better part being unsure of just where she stood in the company. part of her wants to leave now, while the contract terms are filled and there won’t be any debt to worry about; to go back to living live more freely, and doing what she wanted. the other half thinks of tiffany, of yeri, of taeyeon and sunyoung and even taemin and the other boys. she couldn’t let them down so easily, right? yet hyeri comes to mind, who so soon after being put into debut let go of her dreams, and the hurt that she left in her wake was only just starting to go away. 

would she even have that impact? 

tied up in her own thoughts and makeshift wants and pros and cons of leaving or staying with kt, she goes through the motions of training, observing everyone else more intensely than she would on a normal day. would they stay again too?

even the lightened schedule of the weekend does little to turn her thoughts from renewal. it should be an obvious answer- and the fact that it feels like it isn’t worries her and she’s not sure why. she’s always been quick to make decisions, and why shouldn’t this one be an easy yes?

if she didn’t renew, there would be no debut, and the rest of the girls would either have to downsize the group or have no group at all, and sooyoung would be responsible for tanking everyones’ dreams just because she wanted a break. if she did sign on for another two years, who was to say it wouldn’t still take months to move ahead in the debut plans? or that things wouldn’t change and the little freedom she had would be taken away?

she feels guilty for something that should be such an obvious and simple answer not being that. if her heart were with kt, and in training, wouldn’t she have signed the moment she sat down? 

monday morning, with only two days left before they’ll consider her terminated, she requests to be seen, although it seems like everyone expects it already. she sits down in the seat across from the ceo, and with (still, because she can never not be a nervous wreck in front of katie lee) shaking hands she signs her name on the dotted line once again, praying that things go right.

“thank you, sajangnim. i’m sorry for having taken so long to decide. please know that my heart is with kt, it just took reflecting to realize that.” she stands carefully and bows deeply, before making her way out of the room and back to training- like always.

You are interrupted during a morning lesson by your vocal coach but, instead of receiving praises or complaints, they tell you your presence is needed elsewhere. As you draw closer to Katie Lee’s office you can’t help but wonder what is so important that she needs to tell you herself. However, before you’ve reached the office, your coach turns towards a room on your right and tells you to take a seat.

The woman sitting at the table isn’t your CEO, but one you know holds a strong position in the company. Once you sit down, she gives you a smile. “Hello, Tiffany. I’m glad to see you here today.” You can’t tell if she’s sincere with her greeting, yet you keep paying attention regardless. “As you were told about some months ago, we have been preparing a very special pre-debut company project. After much thought, we’ve decided your long-time dedication, growth, and talent should award you the second spot in KTROOKIES.”

She leans to the side to take a file out from inside her purse and places it right in front of you. “In here is your full preparation schedule with everything you need to worry about. Your introduction video will be the second upload of a sub-channel under the KTROOKIES name, and you’ll also have a photoshoot to have your pictures displayed on KT’s official website.” The dates and details are all listed on the file for your future reference. “You won’t need to make up any normal training you miss when you’re called upon for KTROOKIES, so you won’t need to worry about that.”

Once she finishes her prepared speech, the woman relaxes. “I hope you’re excited for this. It’ll be a long ride.”

she wouldn’t know where to begin. it reminds her of the day of her contract renewal ( yikes, that one is coming up again fast ), of the process of becoming a mga coach ( we all know how that ended ), and of possibly facing suspension in high school because her then boyfriend thought sneaking on campus at midnight was a bright idea. all things that are better off being put off if you ask her. 

nervous, anxious, confused, she’s a electrified bundle of emotions with no way of releasing them. a shake of her leg  —  no, it’s too loud. tapping of her fingers on her thighs   —   no again, too obvious. she settles for toying with the ends of her hair but it comes off a little mean girls and legally blonde, not that anything is wrong with channeling one’s inner elle woods. hell, how could she object when she was chanel oberlin of all people last halloween? 

but this is different, this feels different. 

obviously enough, the office itself is different and the woman in front of her is quite different too. glad to see you  — sounds just formal enough to be kind yet threatening. such a succinct message capable of far too much for an over-thinker like her. 

ktrookies. 

this was it, the pre-debut team they’d heard of months ago. what could essentially be the gateway to debut itself and she’s a member of it. her heart races but her mind wraps around the word second. somehow, without asking, she knows who first is and it’s not surprising nor uncalled for. still, she can’t help the small twinge of jealousy that threatens to steal away her excitement. 

second, isn’t she destined to be when there’s taeyeon? yet she can’t be consumed by it. the more she hears it, the more annoying it becomes. it didn’t faze her before but to hear others say it, acknowledge it, decide as if it’s the natural and only way things can be — it inspires her to work harder and there’s determination flooding into her eyes. her legs no longer shake as she’s unwavering with resolve. 

“kt won’t regret this choice.” 

because in the end, as long as she’s chosen, who the hell cares?

*** relating to tiffany’s gift for each kt trainee, i wanted to include some info on the decoration available for the kt tree. while there’s a large variety of options, especially in different shades of pink ( gotta represent company colors! ) there are also various personally customized clear ornaments filled with random decorations such as glitter, sand, stones, etc. it’s what gave tiffany the idea for her main gift for each trainee of a hot cocoa ornament as a thank you for participating and another gift of one decorated especially for that trainee. if tiffany and your character weren’t there at the same time, it’s safe to assume she approached them during any other time of the day she ran into them! if anyone needs any specific time, just let me know and i can send a new submit!
