Might be a weird question but... What kind of content do you think gets the most attention in the Black Butler fandom? I write fanfics but... I feel like I’m writing to nobody as my fics only get about 4 kudos and it’s really disheartening.
Fanfics are often popular, particularly for certain ships... that don’t really need more content, imho. You might be able to get an increase in readership by focusing on the most popular ships, or you might catch the fandom’s attention with a rare pair. Who knows?
I seem to be doing okay with theories, headcanons, shitpost edits, and — more recently — some rp/cosplay content. I’ve also had some modicum of success with au scenarios; those are typically based on what’s requested.
I find that it sometimes helps to let others direct the content a bit. If you want to keep writing fanfics, try asking the fandom what sort of stories it wants. I’m not a good one to ask, since I largely avoid fanfics, beyond short scenarios. I hardly ever read fanfics past a few lines when they show up on my dash, even if it’s a pair I like.
Fan art, in general, is also very popular, but I’m not good at that, so the best I can offer is panel edits used for rp and shitposting/memes. Again, the most popular fan art is typically ship-focused... unless it’s just an amazing portrayal of a character in an artist’s personal style.
I’d be interested to know how long you have been blogging fanfics in the Kuroshitsuji fandom. Sometimes it’s just a matter of time and blog exposure. I definitely didn’t get my current follower numbers overnight. It took a good 5 years of Kuro-heavy content to hit 8k, and sometimes I’m still shocked I ever passed 100.
Also — making an assumption that you are somewhat new around here — tagging is your friend, because it helps get you new readers who follow certain tags. Just please use tags that match the post content. Otherwise, it’s like clickbait. Some people will click and check out your blog, like what they see, and stick around anyway. Many have learned to largely ignore blogs that constantly use tags that don’t fit the content. And keep in mind that an increasing number of blogs filter out content they don’t want to see, so even more reason not to use certain tags to gain attention unless your blog actually contains that content.
