Ren was a little anxious when he saw Akechi sitting at the bar when they came home. But with the way his eyes light up, it’s evident that it’s the good sort of anxiety, for the most part. What is that again? Oh. Right. That’s excitement, isn’t it? The Detective greets him with a ‘Welcome back’, and the messy haired teen gives the other a pleased smile. He’s happy to be back, to see his coffee shop companion. Today was long. But it’s not done yet. 

Ren says, ❝ Hey. I’ll be back in a sec.❞ and takes off, ascending the stairs to his room. He puts his bag (and Mona) down, kicks off his shoes, and quickly changes out of his school uniform. He pulls on a white, star patterned shirt, and some comfortable jeans. It always feels good to get out of those clothes. The jacket sometimes feels constricting when he’s got The Anxiety. Ren takes a moment to breathe, and then picks something up off his work table.

It’s a bracelet, made with some shiny, platinum colored star shaped beads. It looks just like the one he’s wearing himself.

❝ Hold on. You’re giving it to him?❞ Morgana asks, and Ren blinks slowly at their cat before replying, ❝ He’s who I made it for, Mon Ami.❞

Morgana’s whiskers twitch— The cat equivalent of a bunch of question marks. But Ren has spent enough time with Goro to consider him a friend. Why wouldn’t he have made him one? They’ve given these hand-made bracelets to all of their friends, and the one downstairs will be no exception. The Detective seems to enjoy Ren’s company, and he’s someone Ren treasures, too. Signs point to it being safe to say that they’re someone the other trusts, but still... Ren hopes gifting Akechi a friendship bracelet won’t come off as being out of nowhere. Too sudden. Too much.

Ren comes back down the stairs and heads right over to grab his apron from behind the counter. They crouch very low, slip it over their head, then pop back up. They do this not suddenly enough to startle the boy sitting at the bar, but quick enough to have an amusing affect. Local cute enby copes with their bit of nerves by being a little silly. ❝ Hi, Akechi-kun. Can I get you anything?❞

     When he wakes, it is still dark, darker even still than it had been when he had first lain down. He is not sure what woke up, some errant distant car, or the yowl of a cat, it is not important.

In any case he has no desire to force himself to go back, he enjoys the night, once he has pulled himself from bed and dressed, it calls him out into its arms like an old and tender lover.

So too does he feel about Mementos, which welcomes him feel much the same way, once he has exited his apartment and has moved down the stairs, he slips easily from reality to dream. Or thought, or whatever it is one might consider the metaverse. In the night, it is especially calm, so much of the world at rest, cognitions of rest. 

The hallways twist and wind, but there’s no fear, it pulses in his veins and he knows each twist and turn by heart despite its constant change, a map seared into his being. He accepts it now, this, Mementos, is home. Despite this, he finds himself needling from this reality into another, he cannot help himself, he finds great joy in his wandering from universe to universe, it is like a heist all its own. Reality tears beneath his touch like a veil, and in a step, he is no longer in His Mementos, and instead, in another.

Hands tucked into his pockets, he idles his time following the twisted train tracks, teasing his steps lightly over them as if they are some great many-tendril’d creature that he may wake. No longer does he have any need to find the upwards stairs into reality, instead, much like slipping into Mementos, he simply slips out, and this world too is evening dark, the city lights splashed within the blue of evening like so many stars. Late enough to be dark, not so late that the city has slowed.

His phone is pulled from the pocket of black jeans, and he watches the time adjust to match this universe. Indeed, late enough to be dark, not so late as to be dead. He feels good, a little distant from himself, but that is a common feeling. 

Now, where to?

     He makes his way from the alleyway he’d stepped out into, out onto the sidewalk, and from there he makes his way towards the place that he knows Inokashira park will be, it has slowly become one of his favorite places. Soothing, and in the night, even moreso. He is just arriving to the edge of the park when footsteps catch his attention, he is not sure why they do, the city is alive with people, by all means it should pass right over his head. 

But turn his head he does.

Soft brown hair.      Eyes like mulled wine.

Even now, seeing him always makes him pause, how silly, how childish. “Akechi--” the name comes before he even thinks not to say it.

It was the end of November. The Phantom Thieves had already collected four of the five invitations from the VIPs of Shido's Palace. Right now, they were taking a break and gathering supplies in preparation for the last VIP... and Shido.

However, one particular VIP kept bothering Haru as she walked through the afternoon streets of Shibuya: the TV Station President. How he insulted her father and the Okumura name. Yes, she resented her father for selling her off into a forced marriage and mistreated the employees, but that didn't change the fact that he was still her father and loved her at one point! And because of that traitor... Akechi... she never had the chance to reform him.

Haru pictured the charming Goro Akechi in her mind... thinking about the murders he committed, the intent to spy on them from the beginning, framing them for his murders, trying to kill Joker... the TV Station President made her mad enough, but Akechi made her whole body tremble.

And just as the pleasant smile from Akechi went into the back of her mind, Haru looked up from the ground and locked eyes with that all too familiar boy. His light brown mop of hair, his dark red eyes... She found Akechi wandering the streets.

An intense fight with a Shadow had Haru wildly swinging her ax, unaware that the sharp edge grazed Crow on the cheek and bloodied him. “C-Crow! I’m so sorry! I should have been careful of my surroundings!” While the others fought, she used a handkerchief from her Thief uniform to help clean up the blood.
