Google Popular Searches / Family Feud Game
For a while, I've been thinking about making a fun, simple internet game you can play. Here's how it works:
Family-Feud style team competition, using Google popular searches as your 'survey says'.
-two teams of one to four people
-a computer connected to the internet, logged out of your google account, facebook, twitter, and any other website. Safari must be installed.
-a piece of paper and a pen
At the beginning of each round, each opposing team meets separately. They must decide on a prefix of a sentence to challenge the other team with. Some examples include: "what do I do if I..." or "where can I find..." or "when did horses..." or "horses eat..."
When both teams have decided, a coin is flipped to see who goes first that round. One team guesses, and one team challenges. The team that guesses will be told the prefix that the opposing team has chosen for them. With the computer, the challenging team will type the prefix they have chosen into the top-right Google search bar from either a Safari new tab. Make sure the guessing team cannot see the computer screen.
Google will populate a list of autocorrect "suggestions" for your search, ranked in order of popularity. You want to use the small top-right search bar, and not the main Google home page search bar, because it gives you many more "suggestion" search results.
Members of the guessing team will take turns trying to guess what the suggestion search results are. Each individual will have 5 guesses, and earn points for each one they get correct. If it is a 1 on 1 game, each individual with have 10 guesses.
Points are awarded, like in Family Feud, based on popularity of the answers they get right. Since 10 autocomplete results will usually show up, if you guess the top ranking result you get 10 points; and if you guess the lowest ranking result you get 1 point. If there are less than 10 autocomplete results, use 10 points for the highest one and then descend in that order. If a team manages to get at least half of the results correct, they get a bonus round: their opposing team must reconvene and think of another query. If not, it continues on to the next team.
The competition will continue for 5 total rounds, whereupon the point tally will be totaled and a winner will be crowned.
-Guessing search results word-for-word is DIFFICULT. Please allow some leeway with answers. (eg: You should accept "I like...dancing" even if the response is "I like...to dance")
-Try to avoid ridiculous or one-word search queries. Instead include a helpful verb to accompany a noun (eg. instead of 'horses....' use 'horses eat...'
-Try to make it not too hard, but also not too easy.
