i’m still such a fan of the contrast between corbeau (the poison trainer) and jacinthe (the fairy trainer). corbeau is a loan shark who sets ungodly interest, but then has people do community service and good deeds to pay off that debt. his grunts look stressed/tired all the time but besides the 2 guards they’re really into the rust syndicate stuff (shoutouts to the sylveon side quest where a guy is getting coached on how to sound henchman-y). yet corbeau asserts he’s a bad person because HOW he goes about his business, despite the fact everybody he works with respects and loves him.

meanwhile, jacinthe— while certainly not heartless— is very selfish. She stalks team MZ while they stop rogue mega evolutions and then traps them in her jacinthe zone (is that legal???) and does the same thing to the other ZA royale bosses to stop them from leaving her building. there’s that toxic yuri shit she did to lebanne. her goons act distinguished but they insert themselves into kids’ affairs to try and assert their prerogative. They’re Rich. Jacinthe will literally bend every rule in the book in order to get what she wants… and what she wants is innocent enough. it’s her refusal to accept no which causes problems.

god, I love the character work in this game. shoutout to my goat Ivor, whose abs i need to lick like a thirsty man in the desert

EDIT: after writing this I finally realized the reason corbeau has a random gyarados on his team is because he’s a Lysandre fanboy FUUUUUCK it’s genius, why didn’t I think of that?????

like you're telling me the couple, where one of their biggest dillemmas is that they don't have enough time for each other due to their respective careers, managed to make it on time to a market on the 24th? and we only get to see a cameo of them?

talking about major silksong spoilers so uh yeah bear wit that

Silk. Oh my god. Silk.

I have… so many. Thoughts. About her.

… first one being her boss fight is strangely easy, but that’s probably because. Y’know. Her not being the real final boss of the game.

anyways, onto my REAL thoughts about silk: her motivation as a character.

we idn’t really get any clue about what silk was up to. before we got to her, all we knew is that A. Her kingdom was running out of silk and B. She wants hornet’s power to generate infinite silk. on first glance it can be assumed it’s to… save her kingdom, or whatever.

except pharloom’s haunting is RECENT.

and we know this because Frey, bellhart’s shopkeep, outlasted the event that got all her fellow residents possessed. She hunkered down and outlasted it.

given how big her shop is, we can safely assume Pharloom hasn’t been explicitly haunted for a While. and the pilgrims, well, they seem surprised all of this is happening. almost like the grapevine didn’t catch the news yet, unlike hallownest. people KNEW hallownest was fucked.

and while pharloom seems to have had a silk shortage, again, that seems to be relatively recent. Maybe a couple of years? silk isn’t even out of her cocoon yet. so it can’t be THAT drastic

So what even causes the shortage to begin with, if this kingdom is still ALIVE??

well. I have one guess.

the few things we see grand mother silk do is try to take hornet, fight the void to save her child, and use the last of her power to help hornet escape the void with her daughter.

lace needed tons of silk to keep existing.

there are dozens of bugs in greymoor dedicated to collecting silk.

Hornet can create silk infinitely.

Grand Mother Silk.

I think Silk’s motivation was to keep her daughter alive.

It’s stated silk cane along after the kingdom was founded (we can see implications of that during the post-widow parkour challenge). I think the reason she ever came to pharloom was because of the vast amounts of silk she could use to create her daughter. she’s, like… anti-radiance?? the radiance lost her child and went crazy. grand mother silk wanted a child and would tear the world apart to keep her alive. it would explain why even when she was being consumed by the abyss, she still tried to take hornet, in the slim chance she could get out of that situation and save her daughter.

and then lace shows up to sabotage her own existence.

and clearly I think it’s because lace has mommy issues. her motivation for trying to kill hornet and saving her at the very end is to stop silk from getting her. I think lace completely misunderstood the situation as silk wanting to REPLACE with someone better. and despite lace working against her, silk still risked the entire kingdom to try and save her. and honestly, I think that storytelling is kind of awesome. lace is LITERALLY the anti-hornet
