Ares probably scared the shit out of the kid for appearing out of thin air and giving presents. Heck, the god himself was still questioning why the fuck he even decided to do such a thing. It wasn’t as if he particularly remembered the mortal woman whom he laid with that produced Kyungsoo. It wasn’t even an insult, he could barely keep track of all the lovers he had throughout the millenia. His children, thankfully were better considered, though not as much.
Like his favorite Greek city, Ares practiced the Spartan way when it came to minding his children. If they were born healthy, he stuck around just long enough to ensure they lived. If they were particularly powerful children, he kept a close eye on them. Still, he was basically a dead-beat dad who didn’t show up.
Was he jealous that Aphrodite often disappeared to help (meddle) in her children’s lives? He would never admit it. It was all sideways crazy, getting involved in his children’s lives, but then again, this particular kid didn’t even fight back properly, it was an insult to his pride.
Or he would like to say to himself. “Look,” He said now with obvious strained patience. “No self-respecting child of mine will go around this piss-poor city unarmed. Whatever safety shit the gods at the council are shoving at the citizens, it don’t matter. You’re my kid and trouble finds you.” It was the closes thing to concern he could probably show. Though he was scowlng and glaring all through out this explanation.
He fished the spear from the box and murmured “bellum” to it before it, the spear shrunk and morphed until it looked like a plain silver ring with a bronze and copper finish. He whispered “polemos” and it flashed into a spear once again. “So you don’t look stupid carrying a spear or dagger around.” Was all he said before handing it back to the kid.
“The sword...” He reaches for it, all business in his face. “On second thought, I don’t think you should have this just yet.” It was a sword that passed through many of his children throughout the years, weather they used it for fighting or now. It was a sword that basically embodied all Ares’ abilities. “This is not a letter opener and I’ve seen you fight. But here...” In a snap of his fingers another ring appeared and he slid it across towards him. “Try telling aspida to it.”
“This shit isn’t just for show, you got to learn how to use it. Don’t tell me you don’t want to, because you’re like a ticking time bomb.” Ares studied his son with shrewd black eyes, as if looking for the rage and the wrath burbling within.
