It's really interesting, remembering two past lives that were in the same universe, but it raises some questions. For the canonblind: I was dead, but then remade into another artificial body. One copy of my consciousness remained online while the other went into the body. But at the end of the anime, those two consciousnesses merged into a singular one. Due to the obscurity of my source, there's not much available in terms of fanfic. As a result, I've read all of it. I have read every single fanfic in the Serial Experiments Lain fandom that has been written in English. I... feel oddly dissatisfied with that. To a degree, I thought of Makino as a father figure after my own father walked out on my mother and I. He bought me a few things I mentioned I wanted after my dad left, told me where to get the healthiest cheap food in my area and praised me whenever I got good grades. I miss Tomo. I miss how human and real it made me feel to have a friend who was okay with my lack of social skills and who never minded my long stretches of silence. It's interesting to me that in both of my lives as Lain (arguably three), humans created an artificial human/AI, me, and I was not meant to have a romantic orientation. It was not something they ever considered. Yet, each time, I was bi. Tomo-kun, Kyoko, Taro, Arisu - I felt a deep affection and attraction for one boy and one girl in each life.
