She really needed to stop getting herself into these messes. But, Lois decided, as she knocked out one of her attackers, she hadn’t exactly been expecting her dry cleaners to be a front- for what, she was still figuring out. All she had been doing was trying to get her jacket before they closed and got distracted by the suspicious noises coming from the back of the building. She investigated, only to come face to face with some very shady looking people who now wanted her dead for hearing more than she should’ve. It hadn’t exactly been in her evening plans. Jabbing her elbow into the gut of a man who had grabbed her from behind, she stepped on his foot, digging her heel into his toes, and got the separation she needed when he winced and stepped back, using the distance to take him out as well. But at the familiar sound of a gun cocking, she realized that her luck may have run out and there was no time to call for help. Before he could fire, he was taken down too, and so were his remaining friends, all of them tied together in a flash. Her hero turned out to be a woman dressed head to toe in black leather, a mask covering the top half of her face. She was shorter than Lois, petite with black hair and a smile that looked way too familiar. In fact her whole presence seemed to ring a bell, but Lois couldn’t place her. “Are you okay?”

Marriage was a complicated topic for her; with Clark, she had been young and naive and even if they had never gotten there, the thought of marrying him had felt like a dream, feet off the ground and floating in the air, metaphorically speaking. Actually marrying Lex, on the other hand, had been a nightmare from which she felt she couldn’t escape, until she did.

The idea of marrying Lois grounded her, but at the same time, made her feel strong and powerful and just … happy. She imagined walking down the aisle and not being afraid of meeting the other person at the end. Pictured driving away not filled with sadness, but with excitement, and if she was crying, they would be happy tears.

With Lois, there would be no looking back at an exes, just to the side at the one she loved as they continued to move toward their shared future together. It left her feeling hopeful and breathless and just so, so happy.
