Laegjarn: New Experiences
Summary:
Laegjarn is a really popular unit, getting her for free with chill defence built into her weapon, and chill res, along with good stats?! This is a great opportunity to add another unit to your team, who would have thought that Camus 2.0 would actually be coming as a new years unit.
Without Skill Inheritance:
With a pretty nice 35 defence and 35 speed, Laegjarn can be built to either maximise one of these stats and ignore the other, or she can just be gratefully accepted as a solid support unit due to her def/res chill.
I personally love the fact she can easily become a mixed range tank thanks to us all now being able to get up to 10 spare Berkuts.
With Skill Inheritance:
Laegjarn goes from being a slightly weaker version of Camus to being an actual demon, it’s honestly terrifying to see what the possibilities are for her.
With dual atk/def bond and chill atk you can easily have an effective 62 defence, that’s without buffs. Running brazen skills you can easily have 52 def and 30 res, that’s some solid bulk for a ‘low res’ unit.
Strengths:
Laegjarn is a free unit, this means that eventually you can +10 her, no orbs needed!
Laegjarn is blue, so she ca take on a lot of the scary strong red enemies like her sister.
Cavalry units are still some of the best in the game, with excellent mobility and well-rounded stats, cavaliers are some of the strongest opponents you’ll face, and have always been prominent in the meta.
Weaknesses:
You’re gonna be waiting for a good while to +10 her, given that they’re only just adding units like Azura to heroic grails, and you’ll still have to actually earn enough grails to summon another 9 Laegjarns.
She’s not gonna be able to do much to green foes, even though she has solid attack and defence, enemies like Fae and Surtr will literally make mincemeat of her, she just can’t touch them! She’s versatile but she’s not a god.
The builds that make her good are really high investment, if you don’t absolutely adore her then you might as well focus on someone else, I think that the brazen set is a good low-cost option for you, but it’s still a rare skill.
Build Suggestions:
Brazen Budget:
Double brazen is a pretty common sight since Ares got demoted, getting an extra 14 attack and 7 def/res really helps Laegjarn ascend and doesn’t require as many premium skills, don’t forget that quick riposte 2 is a great substitute if you have a strict budget.
Horse Lukas:
So stealing from her father, Laegjarn can gave truly inhuman defence, with guard and an extra 13 defence when considering her skills, as well as an effective +12 attack, Laegjarn becomes an efficient powerhouse, you could swap out her B slot for renewal if you want to make her even harder to kill, but I like to guarantee some double hits.
Thicc Princess:
I’m sorry for the name but just look at how meaty she is! With a superb 47 defence and 40 resistance against ranged foes, Laegjarn is an intense mixed tank, even dragons are gonna find her tough to chew since this doesn’t consider buffs, and she’s gonna be hard to outspeed.
Quick overview
We all thought Shigure was going to be mediocre. Turns out he makes a case for the best flier in the game. 33/37 offence is incredible. To put this into perspective, Tana has 34/36 and Cordelia has 35/35. Basically shigure is the fastest of the three, but also the weakest. So how does he compare? The speed is pretty useful considering his bulk as well, but it’s mainly his weapon which sets him apart otherwise, as it offers those +10 damage spikes. Basically what I’m getting at is that he’s as good as Cordelia and Tana and very much worth it.
Base kit
Harmonic lance grants +10 to special triggers. Amazing ability. Sadly he can’t abuse it with Wrath but a solid weapon none the less. Noontime, despite obvious reference being obvious, is really not that useful. Healing is still niche in the current meta, he’d be better with a offensive skill. Darting stance is a new skill which grants +6 speed when attacked... Yeah don’t use this. All the other stances are far better and even then he shines player phase, not enemy. Finally ward fliers is nice for any flier emblem team, though arguably weaker than other flier skills.
Desperation is really what you should be looking for budget wise or hit and run, both offer great synergy with his class type. As for assists fliers always want reposition.
Pros + Cons
+Fastest lance unit in the game as of now
+Decent attack
+Nice bulk as well
-Awful base kit besides his weapon
-Needs a lot of investment because of this
-Competition from Tana and Cordelia who have their own pros and cons vs him
Partners
Other fliers offer great synergy in flier emblem teams. Hinoka is a obvious choice as is his mother, Azura, but units like H Nowi offer the ability to blast green units like Hector out of the water,
Suggested set(s)
Oceans +10
Suggested ivs: +atk/spd -res/hp
Harmonic Lance+, reposition, Moonbow
Slot A = Swift sparrow, fury
Slot B = Desperation
Slot C = flier buffs, any c slot
Sacred seals: guidance, spd+3, atk+3
Weapon refinery: +Spd is his best option
The best way to build Shigure is offensively. Harmonic lance is a incredible weapon, when refined and a +spd nature you can hit 43 speed naturally, enough to double most units and live most fast mages like Nino, provided they are not buffed. Ideally you want to keep his solid bulk so swift sparrow and fury are great choices for the A slot. Moonbow is used due to its lowcool down to provide more +10′s.
Bulk wil save the days
Suggested ivs: Any ivs work here but +atk is optimal
Harmonic Lance+, reposition, Moonbow
Slot A = Distant counter
Slot B = Quick riposte
Slot C = flier buffs, any c slot
Sacred seals: distant defence
Weapon refinery: +Spd is his best option but +res/def also have their merits too
So shigure’s bulk is so decent he can a pretty decent enemy phase unit. Harmonic Lance’s passive effect is amazing for it and with quick riposte he can prevent enough doubles while garunting them in return. Distant counter lets him fire back at mages for a full complete set. If you want to run defensive shigure, but lack DC then steady stance + iotes shield can also be used for a similar tanking effect.
Quick overview
So last time we talked about Clair I had a +5, who in the span of 3 hours is now +9. Well I love Clair a lot as an echoes stan, but her newest improvement helped her out a ton. The ability to take care of two types of prevalent units is insane as is flashing blade, but I have 2 lil gripes. First her weapon is the same as Caedas just a lance instead, this means, they are extremely similar, the main difference being colour. Arguably Caedas colour is better due to units like Grima M and Hector, meanwhile Clair hasa colour advantage against black knight, Zelguis, Xmas Tharja and can handle some Blues like Effie. It’s really preference, colour or character.
Base kit
Rhomphaia is clairs new weapon, and trust me there is no reason to use silver lance, better might, effects and a unique refine mean silver lance is outclassed. Being effective against armours and cavaliers is great and helps her damage output. Whats more it allows clair to use her speed with flashing blade. Hit and run is a decent skill, and lets her retreat after battle, it’s not the best out there but the moves you can pull after retreating are undeniable.Harsh command has little use with all the harsh honesty meanwhile spur speed is one of the better spurs out there.
In the A slot ideally something to help clairs attack is appreciated , death blow is a solid option as is swift sparrow. Fury is also useful as it bumps up her res even higher. Special wise iceberg is always going to be your best bet, or glacies for mad damage.
Pros + Cons
+Very fast especially for flier standards
+Ton of res makes her a magic check
+Comes with decents skills and a solid weapon.
-Poor attack means she’ll struggle against non armours or cavs
-May need some expensive skills
-Caeda provides a lot of competition, though you can just use both.
Partners
Clair works best as a support unit to help guide units into battle, hence putting her ona mixed team is a solid option. Hinoka and other fliers are also a great boon thanks to flier buffs and really help salvage her damage output.
Suggested set(s)
Desaixs maker
Suggested ivs = +atk/spd -def/hp
Rhomphaia+, reposition, Iceberg/glacies
Slot A = Fury, Swift sparrow
Slot B = desperation
Slot C = Def ploy, flier buffs
Sacred seals: guidance, ploys
Weapon refinery = flashing blade
Clairs high res makes her the ideal choice for ploy skills, allowing her to snipe down a foe and then zoom in for extra damage. Fury arguably helps her the most due to the extra 3 res, safe way into desperation as well as the atk and spd.Iceberg or glacies is really up to you but both charge faster thanks to her weapon.
You can use this set with DC + QR as well for a defensive variant.
Magoi Gather
+res/spd -def
Berkuts lance+, reposition, Iceberg
Slot A = Distant counter
Slot B = Quick riposte, guard
Slot C = Any c skill
Sacred seals: distant defence, Quick riposte
Weapon refinery = +res is the best option here.
Basically Clairs high res makes her a ideal choice to tank magic hits, and with Berkuts lance she can reach some very nice Res heights and with quick riposte enable some sort of hurt when she strikes back. With distant defence she can pretty much block most magic attacks coming her way, but you can use quick riposte if you want to use guard in the B slot to prevent units procing skills against her.
Quick overview
Peri despite how your voice was butchered you still rocking the wildest hair colour in all of fire emblem history. Peri is known for her high attack speed and resistance all of which make her a stand out cavalier. She can be run offensively or defensively so she’ll probably have a use for any ivs she gets. Though really depends how you feel after she broke your pity rate.
Base kit
Slaying slance, well killing is what she comes with, is an amazing weapon, fast specials are solid all the time, its a weapon you can’t go wrong with. Glimmer is generally outclassed by other specials, she really should be avoiding it. Res+3 seems nice and all but she generally will have better options. Finally you can’t go wrong with threaten defence, its arguably one of the best c slots for her.
As for B slots desperation is a viable option if +speed thought hit and run is a nice option as well. Lance breaker can also be a viable option as well.
Pros + Cons
+Able to run offence and defence sets
+Comes with some decent skills
+Really solid offensive stat spread
-Struggles to pick on one set she wants to run
-Blue cavs have to compete with each other, its not fun
-Some sets require entire reworks
Partners
Peri as all horse units loves horse buffs though dancers are nice if running desperation, and units who can boost her res on mage killer sets. Eirika is a surprisingly good unit to pair Peri with as she can buff her most important stats while Eirika can also handle greens for Peri.
Suggested set(s)
Stabbity stab, Jabbedy jab
+Atk/spd -def/hp
Brave/Firesweep lance+, reposition, Luna/Iceberg
Slot A = Swift sparrow, Life and death
Slot B = Desperation (BL), hit and run, drag back
Slot C = Threaten defence, horse buff or any c slot.
Sacred seals: atk+3, spd+3
Peris stats lend really well to firesweep or brave builds. If you want a focus on attack go with brave lance and desperation, as you’ll want to hit hard and fast and with horse buffs she becomes a monster. If you want more support don’t use desperation go with hit and run or drag back with a firesweep lance. As for the A slot in both cases life and death is optimal but if you want to keep her res and abuse iceberg swift sparrow is better.
Copycat mage
+atk/res -def
Berkuts/Slaying lance+, reposition, iceberg
Slot A = Distant counter
Slot B = Quick riposte
Slot C = Any C skill
Sacred seals: Distant defence
Weapon refinery = +res is the ideal option though +spd can be taken
With distant counter Peri can become a serious threat to mages, able to one shot most of them with ease. Combine this with Berkuts lance and she’ll take little in return from them as well. Quick riposte ensures the double on them but you can use a blue tome breaker if you struggle with blue mages. Distant defence maximises your bulk while iceberg deals even more thanks to all the extra resistance. Slaying lance can also be used though the extra res from berkuts lance is what you ideally want.
Quick overview
Clair I have a past with, and I have a +5 one from trying to get Lukas’s. She was for a long time, my blue pity breaker though she seems to have stopped now, maybe when I sent 3 of them home she realised I was after a ginger stud. In all honestly Clair won’t be the best of the blue fliers, but she has some amazing res letting her use ploy skills, and other res based skills incredibly well. Fantastic speed as well makes her essentially the blue Caeda of the the fliers.
Base kit
Silver Lance, while it looks bad because of no additional effect is actually a god send for Clair as it drastically improves her attack power. Hit and run is actually a real solid skill and shes the perfect class to abuse it with, being able to retreat into a mountain, or sea does wonders for her longevity. Spur speed is among the best spurs and a very solid C skill. Finally Harsh command will barely see use but it might be handy.
As for skills you can fill her out with, anything like death or darting blow will greatly increase her offence. As for specials iceberg is a no brainer here.
Pros + Cons
+Very fast especially for flier standards
+Ton of res makes her a magic counter
+Comes with hit and run a very solid option for her.
-Poor attack means she’ll struggle to leave a dent in the foe
-May need some expensive skills
-Somewhat gimmicky
Partners
Clair works well with armours, infantry and other fliers, though more so she should be used on mix teams as a support unit. Though if units can bolster her attack like Eirika or Delthea she’ll also enjoy their support.
Suggested set(s)
Damsel in di-rescue
+spd/atk -def/hp
Firesweep lance+, reposition, Iceberg/Luna
Slot A = Life and death, swift sparrow
Slot B = hit and run
Slot C = guidance, spur attack
Sacred seals: guidance, spur attack
Clair is able to full support the team by rocking a firesweep lance set, which offers no loss to her offences thanks to its high mt. The idea is to send her in, attack and chip away at the foe, retreat and then have her guide another unit in with guidance to finish the foe off, while also spurring their attack to ensure they pick up the KO on the foe, meanwhile they protect clair from any damage. A slot wise life and death is the best option, but swift sparrow can be used if you want to preserve her res if she needs to tank a mage.
Magoi Gather
+res/spd -def
Berkuts lance+, reposition, Iceberg
Slot A = Distant counter
Slot B = Quick riposte, guard
Slot C = Any c skill
Sacred seals: distant defence, Quick riposte
Weapon refinery = +res is the best option here.
Basically Clairs high res makes her a ideal choice to tank magic hits, and with Berkuts lance she can reach some very nice Res heights and with quick riposte enable some sort of hurt when she strikes back. With distant defence she can pretty much block most magic attacks coming her way, but you can use quick riposte if you want to use guard in the B slot to prevent units procing skills against her.
Quick overview
So Hinoka has always struggled due to essentially having the same gimmick as Cordelia but Cordelia has the better Attack while Hinoka had defences, well say goodbye to her being outshadow as Hinoka finds her own niche in being quite frankly a Amazing support unit who hits hard like a truck. Basically imagine her as a fusion of Tanas Guidance and Cordelia’s offence. Hinoka now excels on infantry and flier teams while also having hone fliers too boot. This Hinoka is a new lady ready to pierce those who stand in her way.
Base kit
Brave Lance is a solid weapon for her, with 35 base attack as well anything coming her way will be hit hard. However she now has access to Hinoka’s spear which grants atk/spd +4 if there is a infantry or flying ally is in 2 spaces. This easily makes Hinoka one of, if not the best blue flier for flier emblem offence. On top of that it can be refined to act as guidance for infantry units and flier formation for the surrounding fliers, which is great as you can just move someone near her and she’ll hit hard. Defiant defence gives her +7 defence when low on hp, not really the best for her but does make her a pseudo wall, a shame walls normally want hp with it. Blazing wind does AOE damage but it’s not really worth it in the long run. Finally the converted Hone fliers is a blessed skill for flier emblem teams, use it if you plan on running another flier otherwise she’s better with a drive skill.
If using brave lance don’t worry about desperation unless you have another hone flier, but if using Hinoka's spear its a solid choice for the B skill as is swordbreaker and flier formation. as for assists reposition is the best choice still
Pros + Cons
+Incredible base weapon for support
+Has her own niche as a flier now
+Comes with hone fliers
-To compete with Cordelia and Tana she has to run Hinokas lance
-And if the team falls she returns to her old form
-Sadly if you wish to use her with armours you have to use guidance which can make her weapon somewhat redundant.
Partners
Hinoka shines with any other flier thanks to hone fliers, or infantry units. Ideally units who have access to spur skills or drive skills are ideal choices for hinoka. Eirika also stands out as the only main buffer who is not of the blue colour and with TA can protect her from Green units. Wings of mercy units are somewhat nice if not running her refine as they can pop near her if faraway, therefore dancers are also suitable.
Suggested set(s)
Pin-oka
Suggested ivs: +Atk/spd -def/hp/res
Hinokas spear, reposition, Moonbow/Luna
Slot A = Swift sparrow, Death blow, fury, atk/spd bond
Slot B = Desperation, flier formation
Slot C = Hone fliers, drive speed, or any buff its dependant on your team
Sacred seals: Atk+3, speed+3, spurs, guidance
Weapon refinery: So only refine to flying commander if you plan to use her with infantry or fliers, if using her on a team with horse units or armours and one infantry unit then pick +spd and use the guidance seal.
So Hinokas very strange? first off life and death adds no advantage over swift sparrow so for once there is no reason to use it. Death blow, fury are other options while the best one is probably atk/spd bond which considering she easily can be next to somebody thanks to her weapon and will decimate foes with it. The reason its better than life and death is because theres no defence drop. In the B slot desperation can be used to sweep while flier formation works great with atk/speed bond. In the c slot hone fliers is the best slot for flier emblem teams but if on a mixed team drive speed is ideal to support the allies back who are supporting you.
Xanders Prodigy
Hone-oka
Suggested ivs: +Atk, spd (+hp) -hp,res,def
Brave Lance + , Reposition, Moonbow/Luna
Slot A = Death blow, defiant attack, fire boost
Slot B = Lance/sword breaker, Vantage, wings of mercy
Slot C = Hone fliers or any skill you need
Sacred seals: Atk+3
So I’ll say this now if you want to aim for anything with Hinoka while making her different from Cordelia, just focus on attack, her speed is too low to quad units even with life and death support. Ideally +atk is her best iv as with any brave lance though +spd may be taken though it helps very few matchups. Plus hp is also usable and actually very good if you want to use fire boost as 44 base hp is enough to out hp most units, and if using it should be used with Renewal or hp support. Otherwise death blow and defiant attack are her best options. Death blow lets you get +12 damage on any foe guaranteed while defiant attack gives +14 but requires you to be at 50%. The choice of B skill is really up to you but can work better with some A skills over others. Breaker skills are solid on death blow sets as you can synergise so you quad foes with a ton of extra damage. Meanwhile Vantage loves defiant attack, both being hp based and means she’ll reach 50 atk when under 50%. Wrath enjoys either set but is really nice as it speeds up her cool down while wings of mercy is a fun skill to have and can screw people in arena. Finally hone fliers is a must on flier teams otherwise pick any c skill you need.
Quick overview
So if anyone didn’t know Shiro is my ‘husbando’ from Fates and honestly one of my favourite second gen characters from that game. So when I learnt he plays just like Lukas my though was ‘Two unkillable tanks on the same team’ and thats pretty much what Shiro is. A anti sturdy blow for enemy phase instead of player phase, enemy phase and some great skills to boot if you want a amazing tank, Shiro is a solid choice.
Base kit
Bright naginata grants +4 atk/def on enemy phase. A amazing skill to have and after looking at some damage calcs its even better than what a slaying edge could offer. Plus it pushes him to 39,39 for atk and defence. Steady stance is a amazing skill for him and quite frankly one of his best as it means at base he reaches 45 defence enemy phase. 48 with a iv boon. Which is insane. Swap is honestly decent for the role he plays and defence tactic grants +6 defence to units in two spaces as long as movement type, in this case infantry, is less than or equal to 2. Basically another multi team type skill and solid if you throw on a armour unit or two.
B skill wise Wrath is nice as always but quick riposte is the clear winner here. Bonfire or Ignis are also solid options for specials allowing him to decimate most foes.
Pros + Cons
+ Amazing defence and attack with decent speed
+His weapon enforces his enemy phase role even more
+Comes with a great base kit
-Very weak to mages especially ina green mage meta
-Needs to be given a special
-Has to compete with other Lancer units, heck even blue for a solid team spot.
Partners
If you paired Shiro with a red wall like Black knightor Arden and gave them +6 defence theyd probably love you, red tanks in general really enjoy extra defence and shiro enjoys them tanking greens. Mage checks are also nice, as he can focus on tanking while they hide behind him and destroy foes.
Suggested set(s)
Great wall of hoshido
+Atk/def -res/hp
Bright naginata, reposition, Bonfire/ignis/aether
Slot A = Steady breath, steady stance, close defence
Slot B = quick riposte
Slot C = any c skill
Sacred seals: atk+3,def+3,close defence
Steady breath makes Shiro a beast, giving him faster specials while increasing his defence thus letting him use things like ignis and Aether to his advantage, while bonfire will proc more often is kinda bad synergy wise unless you used a slaying lance but then you give up his amazing weapon buffs, so either ignis is typically better. However Bonfire is the best choice if not using steady breath. Oh I should mention if you do give him steady breath feed him moonbow before hand so you can transfer aether over at the same time, even if you dont plan to use it its a nice option to have and saves you 20k feathers. Quick riposte lets him double while you want to increase bulk with his sacred seal.
Little cheese spear
+Atk -res/hp
Brave lance+, reposition, Bonfire
Slot A = death blow, atk/def bond
Slot B = lance breaker, wrath, wings of mercy
Slot C = any c skill
Sacred seals: atk+3,
A more offensive set using brave lance, shiro with a +atk iv reaches 52 on offence with death blow. Lance breaker lets him easily duel lance units who might stop him as well. Its worth noting though that he can be a wall too, and if paired with a lot hp unit use wings of mercy and atk/def bond together to get to 51 attack and 40 defence and either protect them or destroy the foe that way. Its gimmicky but an option.
