Languages Weekend!
Hello hello HP RP community! So, I know this community is large and there are people from all over the world who speak more than just English. I think it would be really fun if we were to highlight the different languages that people in this community speak/communicate with.
It would start on Friday June 1st at 1pm PST/4pm EST/9pm BST/Saturday June 2nd 6am AEST and end on June 3rd (June 4th for those of you in a timezone that is UTC+5). Very loose start and end time though, so definitely feel free to hop online whenever during those days!
As this is something I hope plenty of people would like to join, it’s not going to be limited to just one era. You can come online as characters from the Founders Era all the way to Next Gen, so you’ve got plenty of options! For this go around, we’ll be sticking to canon characters but if you’ve got an OC, there’s a note at the bottom that you’ll be interested in! :D
All I ask is a handful of things:
1. That you send me an ask/reply to this post/DM me to let me know what character and from which era you’ll be coming online as and what language you’ll be answering in. This way, I can compile a list that’s organized by era, characters, and language so we know who’s doing what. Don’t worry if you want to come online as the same character as someone else. There’s no hard limit to this. You can do another language or you can do the same.
2. Know that when I say languages, I mean any form of communicating. That means spoken language as well as sign! I know we’ve got people who do ASL and BSL in their rp already, so know that’s also an option.
3. Because most of the hp rp community tends to rp in English to reach a larger group of people, when you do get around to posting, the hope is that you’ll include an English translation at the bottom after for those who don’t speak the language so you’re still able to reach them too.
And that’s it!
I want to celebrate the languages in this community and let people bring out those headcanons/au ideas they have for characters speaking things other than English. It’s for fun, and it’s your interpretation of your character, so please don’t worry if you aren’t perfectly fluent. You answer the way you see fit. You’re also mostly definitely welcome to reimagine your character as if they grew up in your own country with that language.
And, hey, if you don’t speak another language, don’t think you can’t participate! You are absolutely encouraged to interact with people! Whether it be through asking questions or actually replying to their posts and learning. It’s part of the whole purpose of this event.
This Languages Weekend will, in a way, get the ball rolling, so to speak. Thanks to a wonderful suggestion from the brilliant @snuffles-groovy-doghouse , if you’ve got an OC from Hogwarts, Durmstrang, or Beauxbatons that you’d like to bring around in the future, you should definitely keep an eye out for something we’ve got in the works. It’s gonna be super coooool *wiggles* V is honestly such a genius!
