Lanthanum, Actinium & Dysprosium redesigns
Actinium is courtesy of @ichibin-irish, the rest are by me with help from @sciphonpylon
Lanthanum's design has many more of the element's applications incorporated in it. His eyes are now lights as well, and he wears glasses since lanthanum compounds - particularly lanthanum(III) oxide - are used as additives in glass (though not in actual glasses but yknow, cute). His tail is a welding electrode, his body is a scintillation crystal/detector, and between his ears is a LaB6 cathode.
Actinium's design is mainly based on this particular isotope's potential use for radioisotope thermoelectric generators in things such as spacecraft. His backpack is such a generator according to Irish.
Dysprosium has a laser pointer tail, a hard drive on her back, wind turbines on her ears and a dosimeter in her forehead. Her blush and tongue are a bright green in reference to dysprosium oxide, though more saturated for the sake of looking nicer.
Also Rhodium has a catalytic converter tail now!
Lanthanum & Cerium for @flmbt. I think this ship actually makes a lot of sense, as these two forms together in ores and it’s hard to separate them. They are also neighbors!
does lanthanum canonically not like pickles? actually yeah I'll project that onto him i hate pickles
Cerium is very protective of Lanthanum, reflecting the circumstances of lanthanum's discovery and name
If the lanthanides played Minecraft, what would happen? Would there be betrayal? Tension? Teamwork? Would someone rear a sheep or baby ghast?

transcript (because you'll need it):
Page 1::
La: lalalalala I am going 2 make a minecraft server
La: Cerium I'm gonna make u MINE!
Ce: OMG are we gonna kiss?
La: No hop on minecraft .
Ce: Lanthanum you know I'm a roblox gamer wtf.
La: Didymium siblings join my minecraft server.
Pr: ok but last time someone blew up my house.
Nd: will iron, nickel, or cobalt join?
La: no cuz they're not lanthanides like we are.
Page 2::
La: I'm not asking Promethium. Hey Samarium are you- oh she's speedrunning the game again
Narrator: meanwhile with Europium.... (they are enjoying the new baby mob update)
Narrator: and Gd (hy lost a round of Bedwars)
Narrator: and the Ytterby family (Terbium, Erbium, and Ytterbium look distressed as they stare at Terbium's PC monitor)
Tb: Is that... Herobrine?
Page 3::
Narrator: Ho, Tm, and Lu are creative mode players!
(there is a scene change from the very bad comic to reality)
Narrator, who was Dy the entire time: As for me, I mainly play on 2b2t and blow up other people's bases. I changed my minecraft skin to Herobrine one time.
On-demand electronic switching of topology achieved in a single crystal
University of British Columbia (UBC) scientists have demonstrated a reversible way to switch the topological state of a quantum material using mechanisms compatible with modern electronic devices. Published in Nature Materials, the study offers a new route toward more energy efficient electronics based on topologically protected currents rather than conventional charge flow. "Conventional electronics involve currents of electrons that waste energy and generate heat due to electrical resistance. Topological currents are protected by symmetry, and so they are promising for new types of electronics with significantly less dissipation," said Dr. Meigan Aronson, an investigator with UBC's Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute and the Department of Physics and Astronomy. "Our research uncovers a specific mechanism where the addition or subtraction of electrical charge can drive a reversible topological transition in the crystal, switching it from a metal that can conduct charge to an insulator that can't. This is a key step towards the implementation of a new type of low-dissipation electronics based on symmetry and topology, and not simply on charge."

How do you feel about your fellow lanthanides, including yourself?
Oh, good one. Alright, this might take a while... Lanthanum's a cool guy, he's quite nice although a little shy. He also works with lighting like me, so that's cool, I guess. Cerium is also quite nice, she doesn't really get up to much, although I will admit I'm a little scared of fire so she does intimidate me a bit. Praseodymium is probably the only other Lanthanide that uses the internet as much as me, although because she can't take things seriously that can be quite annoying sometimes. Also, I absolutely don't understand her taste in music. Neo! I like Neodymium, they're alright. They seem a little too attracted to the magnetic metals, though? Although how come only the magnetic transition metals and not the other magnetic Lanthanides like Samarium and Gadolinium? They're very fluffy and very soft which is nice. Promethium, as the only radioactive Lanthanide, she can be a bit difficult to work with sometimes, mostly on account of her radioactivity messing with my cameras. She can also get quite anxious and chaotic some times, like the other radioactives. Samarium's cool. He's good, he does sound design for me sometimes. He also listens to music like Praseo, but he at least has the decency to listen to music at an unreasonable volume through headphones. It also seems like he spends half the time outside of his own room because of his relationship with Cobalt. I don't mind it though, he's a good neighbour. Myself? I don't know. I like my movies. I'm quite protective of my siblings, I suppose. I also like Lutetium. We work on stuff together. Gadolinium is also cool because they also have a monitor for a head. I also respect their work, as Iodine's assistant. If it wasn't for those two most of us would probably have to be brought back to life by the scientists by now. They're also quite friendly. Terbium's also cool, having a sonar for an eye must be... uh... hmm. Anyway, the members of Team Ytterby are mostly reasonable, they don't really get up to much other than playing games together. Other than that one time Erbium got a knife through their face because of, and I quote a 'tragic scrabble accident?' Why would a knife be involved in playing scrabble? Dysprosium is probably one of the most chaotic elements I've ever met. She keeps shooting lasers everywhere. Under no circumstances is she allowed anywhere near any of my cameras. She's probably also nearly blinded many, many cattos. Probably actually blinded some, too. When filming, we need a security crew to make sure she doesn't wander onto set, although that's easier said than done considering her name literally comes from 'hard to find.' Holmium's good at politics, I suppose. I can't say that I'd support her presidential campaign. I honestly don't imagine any other world leaders would take the leader of Cattopia being an actual catto seriously. Erbium's alright, much like Terbium they don't get up to much, other than getting stabbed in tragic scrabble accidents. I can't say that I'm very close with Thulium, mostly because his rampant alcoholism and in the past, his weed addiction. They're not very good chemicals to be around for a catto with a CRT head, not to mention he's just generally quite annoying and lacks any kind of real skills. Again, Ytterbium doesn't get up to much other than playing games and having sleepovers with the other members of Team Ytterby. I sometimes feel Yttrium gets left out of the group sometimes considering he's the only one of the group who's not a Lanthanide, and significantly lighter than the others, somehow. Lutetium is cool! We make movies together, she has great ideas. Though, having no eyes does make some things more complicated than they otherwise would be normally, so she comes up with the scripts and I do the directing for her. We've had many good hits together, some of which the others quite like!
Anyway, thank you very much for the ask!
