Lots of things are happening as usual in San Diego. On Saturday, we had our 3 hour planning meeting for the coming school year. We planned all our events and things for Fall quarter and got some dates down for other big events later in the year like our MLK Advance. It's always pretty exciting to cast some vision onto the coming year and evaluate the past year's activities and seeing which things brought fruit and which did not. I think that with a quickly growing and changing group like Origins, it's great that we aren't stuck to the same thing each year and we get to evolve and change according to what God is doing and what we feel is going to be effective.
We had large group this Tuesday and it was crazy because so much was going on at the same time. Becca and the worship crew just jammed to the sound of heaven. Worship at Origins is definitely not your usual worship experience. We pretty much abandon the traditional idea of having a worship set and we just flow into it with wherever Holy Spirit leads. It's not about the worship band bringing people into the Presence of God as much as it is about worship being something that everyone actively engages in. The worship team may be walking out in front, but everyone has to walk as well in the journey of engaging with God; no one is going to be responsible for carrying others on their back. Anyway, we just had a conglomeration of worship, heaven, Brian sharing while we were in worship mode, ministry time and God encounters. Some people got free from junk, some people got baptized in the Holy Spirit for the first time. One person who got baptized in the Holy Spirit woke up the next morning praying in tongues. Cool stuff.
Biospheres have also been really good this quarter too. Two weeks ago, a girl came to Monday biosphere after she had come to church on Sunday the day before. God was pursuing her and she had a strong desire to follow Jesus again. She missed the peace she had in her heart before she drifted away. At biosphere, we kind of announced that we were having baptisms the coming Sunday. Before we knew what was happening, she said she wanted to get baptized. It was awesome. Growing up, church was always like, "you need to go through the baptism class for x number of weeks before you can get baptized on this one special baptism day." That's not Biblical. All throughout the New Testament, people were baptized right after their decision to follow Jesus. Religion makes things to complicated. Relationship flows. It was great to see our new friend get baptized and to hear her share at the next Monday biosphere about how she told her friends about it and the fruit that came out of it.
