nobody asked me about LATAN throughout the kira case, but i feel like that is way better than LATAN on 13th December 2003, because it's just her memory tormenting him whenever he is alone or makes a choice, making him wonder what ramifications might that have on someone's life, and there is this part in which, he is stacking sugar cubes, she sits next to him, legs crossed, eyes on him, while he avoids her gaze, and
“Are you a good detective?” she asked him. He resisted the urge to cast her a confused look, concentrating on the tower of sugar cubes he had started building more than half an hour ago. He didn't answer her, because it was a strange question. After all, he was a good detective: he had solved thousands of cases and caught three times as many criminals. He would not have been regarded that way by most of the world otherwise. Sure, his ways might not have appealed to everyone, but there was no denying that he was unbeatable when it came to finding the culprit. “Are you a good detective?” she repeated again.
and L tries to answer this question, even by replaying all his choices during the Kira case, trying to explain to himself that they had a reason and a result. and then he realises that she is not asking if he is a good detective, she is asking him if he is a good detective. and then she leaves.
