Memories
I was at the wedding the other day and got a little nostalgic. I had these older cousins that were always quite elegent, pretty and lound, and I like people showing eachother love quality, just between them too, soo heres the fic about that.
Couldn't choose anyone specifically, so you imagine anyone you would like and maybe tell me who you imagined!!
"Amir! Could you tell them to move the cars in the neighbors driveway once they arrive!" You screamed out at your teenager nephew trough the window, to which he nodded enthusiastically "okkk auntie!!".
It was morning of your cousins wedding, spring sun was high up on the sky warming cold April morning, while silence and sadness could be felt trough the house. Everybody was in the rush, yet moving slowly somehow. Women in the house arranged the tables, neighbors gossiped over freshly made coffee that will be cut short when the guests arrive soon, while the bride was getting ready upstairs with her friends. Your aunt was passing you like the wind, she walked in such a rush while not having anything done, but nobody dared to say a word since it was better for her to feel busy then worry about her daughters departure.
You could see a car arrive, and shortly after your husband calling you from the outside. "Here, it arrived, don't burn yourself" he whispered rushing you into the house thinking you might catch cold with your bear feet on cold tiles, underestimating your ever changing nature where even in coldest winters you could feel heat coming trough your body. Inside, house smelled like freshly baked pie, coffee and flowers, while every stroke of silence not filled with whispering laughs, giggles, gossiping and yelling, was filled with old folk songs coming from the living room radio. You arranged food that arrived in small room at the back of the house, where the women of the guest side will be.
"Mamaaaa, can I have some cake before the guest arrive!!" Your 7 year old son rushed towards you swinging himself at your legs attempting a hug but ended up hanging. Your attention was barely there but you could not ignore that loud mouth "go ask your Amina, there is a cake already open in the kitchen." "And then go outside with your father!" You yelled accross the house while boy rushed away in excitement, knowing sure that he heard it. "Auntie-" Amina was now in front of you "they are calling you upstairs."
"Alright, I'll be there."
Brides room was on the end of the hallway, some strong light coming trought, "oy oy my pretty bride!!" you cooed, tears coming up seeing a girl that was just yesterday a reason of your bankruptcy, now a 20 yeard old that still hald that childish smile on her face. They called you to take some pictures, while every word said in that room was focused on her beauty, reassuring her mother not to cry and jokes being made by the young girls.
Cars could be seen arriving when bride jumped excitingly, spying trough the window and laughing at herself. You met her dear before, he was a screwny boy just like her. One could say they were made for eachother, as they were both shy and smily. Rushing down the stairs, you were the one to greet the guests arriving, your husbands back were turned to you. Feeling your presence he turned around, giving you a teasing smirk, pinching your sides so no one could see. You lightly smacked his shoulder making sure its 1-1.
You both greeted the guests, calling them to the house, it was like the house was yours. Because you and your husband were these quiet types, responsible adults. People of the house would say "look at how he watches her, look at how he helps her out orr look at how she is sweetly calling for him." Your aunts would tell your younger cousins when marriage topic comes up "they got up that and that morning and had a fight, but as he arrived later he gave her a kiss on both cheeks." Kissing eachothers cheeks was little tradition beetween you two, meaning that even after fighting, you both calmed down and would not abandon your little habits.
You tapped his shoulder signing him to come in, be with the guests, since your uncle didn't look the best. He listened you while nodding his head "i will, i will" trying to have you let go of any possible worry. Arriving guests were split into two, mens and womens part. Since mens part was right next to the kitchen, and you tryed to hide away from any possible work, he would come once in a while bothering and teasing you, stealing food and smoking a cigarette on the open window. Today he was different a tad, he knew your family sometimes better then you and the guests were being quiet and polite, so you knew that that the reason for him shying away towards you every once in a while wasn't because of any reasons present. Your anut would arrive everyonce in the kitchen, scolding and teasing you both, looking like a couple of love bird they would say. And you would tell him to go, scurrying away finding a quiet room in the house, you called for him couple of minutes after you found some seemingly important work to do, he would arrive while you looked at the food left in the cold room, stealing a piece of ravished cake. He would laugh at your antics, and you would offer him a piece with your fork. "What is it, why are all giddy, and nervous? You aren't the one getting married." you teased him again. "You saw that man in the gray suit?" at your furrowd eybrows he answered "The man sitting next to your uncle."
"What about him?"
"He used to work wuth my father." "Ohhh"
"He used to arrive often on the weekends, talking and smoking more then working."
"Did he recognize you?"
"He did-" his look was at the floor and distanced "It reminds me of our old house, this place, and the day we got married....he was still alive..."
You could here the children yell and scream all of a sudden, your sons laugh scratching your ear, opening window fracticly you yelled out "heyyy heyy cut it out, dont make me mad!!!" Your husband laughed at your yelling "They were hitting the ball in the neighbors, she should be coming out soon, I will tell them that is time." "Okkk, don't worry too much, if you need to go out call me." You said , he gave a reassuring nod and left, his voice could be felt trough the house joking with the guests.
His shirt reminded you at the one he wore at your wedding day, it was simple and white, yet this time his muscles filled it out, he wasn't a boy since long time ago yet it hit you only now how much time has passed. You rememberd that the food, music and people were almost the same, you two were smaller and younger. Your wedding dress was tiny bit big on you, bright blue shimmer on your eylids and worried look on your face, you weren't a smiling bride, worry about leaving your parents was eating you up that day covered with couple of pills. On the other hand your groom smiled, try to brush away any crease of worry forming in your mind, his shirt, even big, was nicely sitting on him, you thought back then of how handsome he was. His car was old but washed throughly, decorated with flowers and ribbons, you remember embarrassment you felt the day before, since your house was old, yard was covered in flowers, tables arranged yet old, rusty gate was poking your eyes. Those were different times, times when everyone simply had little, but lot to give.
Thoughts got shaken out of your head when he quietly called for your name just as the bride was supposed to get out of the house, like he knew what kind of thoughts you were having in your mind.
