I suspected you were Latina the second Imre called Crowny "nena". I had to take a second when that happened. I feel a bit bad for non-Spanish speakers bc I don't think they fully grasp how that nickname hits lol.

Don't assume Latinos are POC

It needs repeating that Latino is not a race. It's a geographic, cultural, linguistic and politically relevant term for people from Mexico to Argentina, NOT a phenotype or a racialization. Black latinos like Amara la Negra exist, white latinos like José Antonio Kast exist, indigenous latinos like Rigoberta Menchú exist, Asian latinos like Keiko Fujimori exist.

Each country has its own race dynamics and applying the POC label to white latinos like myself who never had to endure systemic racism is both inaccurate and wrong. You may see Latinos who look stereotypically Spanish like Sofía Vergara, Guillermo del Toro and Rachel Zegler and count them as diversity in media, and that's okay if your criteria is culture, but NOT if it's racial diversity. These 3 people could be classified as POC in rural America, but none of them were racialized as POC back home. They are white people, white latinos, and that matters because we NEVER hear from Latinos of other backgrounds.

Afrolatinos have just gotten some attention in the past few years, Indigenous latinos are STILL fighting to preserve their languages, land, religion and other traditions, Asian latinos are literally never brought up at all despite having huge communities in Perú, Chile and Brazil.

It's always possible a Latino is white passing, but some latinos are JUST white. Don't count media as diverse just because it has white latinos in it, we have enough of that already.

crazy how we all can agree that having a grandmother from Italia doesn't make you Italian but if your great grandmother was from Cuba that makes you Latine and you have all the right to speak for latines and you can't be racist cause you're latine

So I don't talk about my immense Pedro crush here but I am part of a discord simping for him and I have been aware of him since before the mandalorian and even since before GOT. The thing is he's always said he's white. And no matter how much I correct people that he considers himself white no one listens. There's a reason he's so many people's favorite latine ofc.

but this in particular has the potential to be very messy. because not only will he be a gay latino but to many whites he's a brown gay latino.

now i don't want to label him as gay when he hasn't said anything but I am afraid of the homophobia and the queerphobia intersecting with anti latine sentiment.

hey followers esp english-speakers!! i've been making effort to poke into latinidad music I don't know over the past year but especially in the past few months and i'm going insane over a few albums that i just Need more people to listen to. these are generally extremely popular albums so i'm not really saying anything groundbreaking here i just want to crack into the walls, so to speak.

anyway i just want to highlight 3 albums i've been rotating as of late:

Locura (1985) - Virus - Argentine If you like: Talk Talk, New Wave, Synthpop, crunchy Sega Genesis sound chip Sample Songs: Pecados Para Dos, Sin Disfraz

El Silencio (1992) - Caifanes - Mexican If you like: The Cure, American 70's prog rock, mixing traditional music with alternative rock Sample Songs: Nos Vamos Juntos, El Comunicador, Nubes

please note i don't know jack shit about latinidad music (unless it's my dad playing mijares for the 5000th time), i'm just trying to make an effort to get into stuff i feel very disconnected from. please send your recs to me!!! i really fucking love Soda Stereo and am warming up really nicely to Caifanes. I like most things rock from new wave to emo to metal so!! (and i have NO qualms about what country it comes from just shove it all in my ears)
