๐๐จ๐ซ๐๐๐ง ๐๐ซ๐๐ฆ๐ฆ๐๐ซ: A-(์ผ)ใด ์ฒํ๋ค, N์ธ ์ฒํ๋ค, V๋ ์ฒํ๋ค โ๏ธ ๐๐ฌ๐๐ ๐ - This expression is used to describe the act of pretending to do or be something while not actually doing or being it in reality. The description of what is contrary to reality appears in the clause preceding the expression -(์ผ)ใด/๋ ์ฒํ๋ค.
ย E.g. ๋๋ ํ์ฐํ ์ฒํ๋ฉฐ ์์์ง๋ง ๋ง์์์ผ๋ก๋ ์์ฃผ ๋ถ์ํ๋ค. (I pretended to be calm and smiled, but I was actually very uneasy at heart.) โ๏ธ ๐๐ฉ๐๐๐ข๐๐ฅ ๐๐จ๐ญ๐๐ฌ (1) When using the verb ์๋ค, only the present tense should be used, not the past tense.
E.g. ๋๋ ์ ์์ง๋ ๋ชปํ๋ฉด์ ์ ์ฒํ๋ ์ฌ๋์ด ์ ์ผ ์ซ์ด์. (X) แ ณ> ๋๋ ์ ์์ง๋ ๋ชปํ๋ฉด์ ์๋ ์ฒํ๋ ์ฌ๋์ด ์ ์ผ ์ซ์ด์. (o) (I hate people who pretend to know something even though they don't know it well.) (2) When using in the past tense, -(์ผ)ใด ์ฒํ๋ค is used to describe a situation where the subject acts as if they had done something, but in reality, they did not actually do it. On the other hand, -๋ ์ฒํ๋ค is used to describe a situation where the subject acts as if they were in the process of doing something, but in reality, they were not doing it at all. E.g. ์์์ด ๋ถ์กฑํ ๊ฒ ๊ฐ์์ ์ ๋ ์ ๋จน์ ์ฒํ์ด์. (Because it seemed like there wasn't enough food, I pretended as if I had eaten the dinner.) แ ณ> In fact, the speaker hasn't had dinner yet, but pretends to have had dinner. ๋ค์ด์ดํธ๋ฅผ ํ๊ณ ์์ด์ ์์์ ๋จน๋ ์ฒํ์ด์. (Because I were in a diet, I pretended as if I had eaten the dinner. แ ณ> ย In fact, the speaker hasn't eaten yet, but pretends to be eating. (3) When using with noun, the form ย N์ธ ์ฒํ๋ค is used. E.g. ๋ ์ฌ๋์ ์นํ ์น๊ตฌ์ธ ์ฒํ์ด์. (They pretended to be close friends.) (4) ์๋ค and ์๋ค always go with ๋ ์ฒํ๋ค. E.g. ์์์ด ๋๋ฌด ์งฐ์ง๋ง ๋ง์๋ ์ฒํ๊ณ ๋จน์์ด์. (The food was too salty, but I pretended it was delicious and ate it.) (5) This expression can be replaced by -ใด/์/๋ ์ฒดํ๋ค in all cases without meaning change. E.g. ์ด ๋๋ฆฌ๋์ ์ฌ์ฅ๋ ์์์๋ง ์ด์ฌํ ์ผํ๋ ์ฒํฉ๋๋ค. = ์ด ๋๋ฆฌ๋์ ์ฌ์ฅ๋ ์์์๋ง ์ด์ฌํ ์ผํ๋ ์ฒดํฉ๋๋ค. (Manager Lee only pretends to work hard in front of the CEO.) โ๏ธ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ ๐๐ฑ๐๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐ฌ 1. ์ง์ฑ์ด ๋ ์ํ์์ ๋จ์ด์ก๋ค๋ฉด์์? - ๋ค. ์๋ฌด๋ ์ง ์์ ์ฒํ์ง๋ง ์์ผ๋ก๋ ๋ง์์ด ์ ์ข์ ๊ฑฐ์์. (I heard Jisung failed the test again. - Yes. He pretends to be fine, but I'm sure he doesn't feel good inside.) 2. ๊ทธ ์ฌ๋๊ณผ ๊ฐ์ด ์ฐ์ฐ์ ์ฐ๊ธฐ๊ฐ ์ซ์ด์ ์ฐ์ฐ์ ๊ฐ์ ธ์จ ์ฒํ์ด์. (I pretended to bring an umbrella because I didn't want to share umbrella with him.) 3. ๊ทธ๋ค์ ์๋ก๋ฅผ ๋ชจ๋ฅด๋ ์ฒํ์ด์. (My brother pretends to study when my mom comes into the room.) 5. ์๋ฆฌ๋ฅผ ํด ์ค ์น๊ตฌ์ ์ฑ์๋ฅผ ์๊ฐํด์ ๋งค์ด ์์์ ์ ๋จน๋ ์ฒํ์ด์. (Considering the sincerity of my friend who cooked for me, I pretended as if I eat spicy food well.) 6. ๋๋ํ์ง ์์ผ๋ฉด์ ์ฌ์๋ฅผ ์์์ ๋๋ํ ์ฒํ๋ ๋จ์๊ฐ ๋๋ฌด ์ซ์ด์.
