It's interesting growing up and learning that most adults are not smart.
I had my suspicious as a kid, but I didn't think the situation was this dire.

I can now share this project! I was commissioned by @llamedos_holiday_camp to take their amazing original artwork and turn them into banners for the camp. It was a heck of a learning curve and it pushed the limits of my software! And while there are some bits I wanted to change, the feedback I got was amazing. Doing this project has made me realise I can do more and it’s given me so many ideas. It was a super privilege to be asked and I did enjoy it in the end. #AngelsCave #Embroidery #MachineEmbroidery #OriginalArt #Dragons #Banners #BigestProjeectToDate #LearningCurve https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca1noG5AlCT/?utm_medium=tumblr
The learning curve. This is what happens when you have an idea take hold of you and no skill to implement it. I had to first figure out how it can be done and then learn all necessary skills. Thus I had to learn to throw tall bottles, create and develop photo emulsion screens. As you can see on the mishima try my handwriting is ugly. Develop screen printing ink. ( seeing Forrest Leach Middleton seminar at Saddleback college helped with choice of paper and some techniques, but I am not using wall paper paste.) And then deal with issues of different shrinkage between the clay and the transfer. And now since we are under quarantine, I am out of sculpture clay to continue on this project. Hopefully I can finish it in time for Ink & Clay and for that matter hoping that the pandemic will be over be then. . . . #pottery #ceramics #ceramicart #contemporaryceramic #contemporaryart #clay #californiaart #craft #handmade #cone10 #wheelthrown #stoneware #cone10reduction #learningcurve #ceramictransfers https://www.instagram.com/p/B99zsuijbRa/?igshid=gk1bh2bu7zpl
#learningcurve ,writing my book was a massive one! This #dandelion project took four attempts. I wanted it on velvet at first in yellow silk embroidery, it really didn't work as the pile was too high, but I tried again with blue backing silk and this time the application of the sequins let me down, this was attempted again before I finally cracked it with white silk thread, less sequins more simply attached and a red backing silk. #marchmeetthemaker #meetthemaker #marchmeetthemaker2020 #18thcenturycostume #embroideredcostume #antiquebuttons #embroideredbuttons #silkembroidery #silkthread #dandelionembroidery #embroideredwaistcoat https://www.instagram.com/p/B9n2yLiImNJ/?igshid=owncmny858r4
#MarchMeettheMaker Day 11 #LearningCurve There's been so many things I struggled to learn, had to practice daily, and finally mastered after years of effort. Teaching has definitely been a learning process. Rather than a Masters in Art Education, I hold a Masters in Fine Art-- I went to SCAD for comics. However, I'm from a family of teachers, and volunteered at my high school alma mater in undergrad, participated in Comics in the Curriculum and student taught at three schools during grad school, and have done workshops with libraries and conventions since. I taught comics through community ed for a year, alcohol marker classes with Plaza for almost as long, and just finished up an 8 week gig with a small, independent art school for kids here in Nashville. As I teach, I learn. More about art. More about how to teach. More about accomodating disabilities. More about accomodating my own #ADHD . More about how I want to run my own private art tutoring in the future. Its definitely been a challenge. There's still so many ways to grow. But I love helping others find their artistic side, and helping to nurture that. #art #arteducation #teachingartist #comicartist #artclasses #drawingclasses #comicclasses (at Nashville, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9pAeEJjH9b/?igshid=vc385h63f5nn
When you try to push boundaries you always will face the dreaded learning curve, and I love them. There is just something about facing a problem and persevering until it’s solved. The sense of satisfaction that comes from success after multiple failures is one of the greatest feelings. I know these photos don’t look like much learning took place, and well it didn’t, but it is the end result of learning. I try to impress upon those I teach to always try and if you fail, learn from it. Nothing is ever gained by staying in the same place. You never grow if you don’t face challenges and strive to overcome them. Many take my advice and run with it and are always amazed at what they create. So go ahead and have the strength to fail, you will grow so much more. #marchmeetthemaker #marchmeetthemaker2020 #learningcurve #fail #success #clay #pottery #wheelthrown #bodyparts #bottle #workinprogressart #ceramicart #clayart (at Gulfport, Mississippi) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9o1-UqgDGZ/?igshid=taw8tgrc2bav
