I am so honoured to have three embroideries accepted to the @broderers.exhibition which starts next week in London. My hydrangeas are in full bloom in the garden and I have made them very blue this year which I love. Here is the hydrangea project from my thread painting book which incorporates a little bit of 3d embroidery. I am slightly cheating today as I am sharing my daytime desk in the RSN studio rather than my at home messy desk but this is such an amazing shot I just had to share. Posted @withregram @royalneedlework #MarchMeetTheMaker is ‘What’s on my desk’? The real 'desks’ of the RSN are our trestles and frames on which sit needles, threads and, today, minute beads. The RSN Embroidery Studio is currently restoring the beading of a casket dated 1672! Embroiderer Marg Dier has done a huge amount of research into caskets of the period and is reworking the areas now missing such as a snail and a unicorn, with beads from our vintage bead collection. Close ups from my FIRST embroidery at the Royal School of Needlework! We had to embroider a GIANT stitch sampler that was designed by an embroiderer in the year above. Second pic shows my first attempt of long and short stitch.Happy times for me, it was the first time I had stitched on or heard of a slate frame and had to learn to stitch with two hands. Loved every minute.
