Back on the ice after what seems like forever. There was a lot of confusion about league time, several folks missing due to #Easter and I ended up helping Owen teach a #LearnToCurl instead while 8 people played a 4v4 game on another. Yea I basically paid to teach a LTC *eyeroll* But at least the LTC students were a fun bunch. I hope they come back for pickup games or a future league. . . I started getting ready for league hours before because I needed to unpack Vegas stuff and convert my backpack back into my curling bag & was sure I was wearing a German jersey to the rink… but we all know I love @teamniklasedin the most & my Icevengers’ incredible run as a trio at the GSOC basically meant I had to bring out the black Viking jersey. In a way I’m glad I ended up not playing because I was kicking myself for forgetting my Swedish earrings OOPS. Not sure if my new @svenskcurling hat will be a part of my regular league ensemble, but I’ll probably wear it to OC league at least once because I’m the kind of fangirl who will make that flex 😜 Let me relish in whatever vain delusions I may have I’m remotely special in any way. I’ll take what I can get. Yep, still a walking ad for Team Edin. NGL part of me is already regretting agreeing to teach at tonight’s @curlsandiego #LearnToCurl I practiced at the SCCC earlier today and the combination of 6 hours of driving and throwing 80 stones has my body all sorts of beat up. I got home and tried to take a nap… but the Brier is on so of course I’m watching and failing at napping. . . Still having issues w/ my out-turns. I actually mixed things up today and did not throw 64 in-turns or 80 out-turns like the previous practices have gone. Super proud of myself for being able to draw the red stone in that lonely pic by myself. I hope I can keep throwing rocks like that by myself so that when I do have sweepers they’ll get to the button. Even prouder of the yellow rock in the other pic because that’s the scoring stone amidst a Game of Thrones wedding house lol. Hopefully I won’t need to make hero shots, but that I’d be capable of doing so if needed… like the last league game where we got creamed… Still getting used to my new @hardlinecurling gloves too. The mitt is still the warmest but these black ones feel comfier than the blue Hardline gloves I also have. . . About 20 days & 18 hours until draw 1 of #WMCC2022 I’m driving so I’m actually leaving for my birthday trip on my actual birthday (4/1) and not planning to start celebrating until 4/2 (starting with goat yoga and then draw 1 of men’s Worlds). Just came back from teaching at @curlsandiego ‘s second #LearnToCurl this year. OMFG I haven’t swept that much in two years (I skipped the last two leagues I played in before the C19 shutdown). Now icing my left shoulder while waiting for 🐐💛 @niklasedin & @teamniklasedin to play the semifinal of the Baden Masters. The other Curl SD members were guilt tripping me because Youtube livestream trumped broomstacking, but I had to drive home in time to watch and cheer on my #Icevengers . . I also decided to be an even more obnoxious walking billboard for Team Edin w/ my @dynastycurling jersey, jacket, and face mask & @Hardlinecurling broom, pants, shoes, gloves, and hat in honor of my Swedes playing in the SF. Volunteered at @curlsandiego ‘s first #LearnToCurl of 2021 tonight. It was nice to see folks I haven’t seen in 1.5-2 years, including one of my Learn To Curl teachers from 2018 who said “I’m not good with names, but you’re @niklasedin ‘s biggest fan” 😂 True. But funny since I was wearing my Wayne Middaugh Brier jersey and Team Wildcard face mask but my reputation breaks through (we had a Curl SD member give me the nickname Niklas during the very first league I participated in because of my fangirling). . . Super happy that we actually have dates for Fall League now. Huge sigh of relief because after the ice rink in Escondido closed down, it’s been extremely difficult to get ice time at our rink in Carlsbad. It was looking like we wouldn’t have league at all, but I guess hockey leagues do take days off LOL. . . Excited for the upcoming season. I may actually be brave enough to try mixed doubles league at my other club (yes I’m a member of 2 clubs and counting so far lol). OC Curling is having a doubles league in September and someone in SD is actually willing to put up w/ me enough to do it. We need to sign up ASAP before he changes his mind & I chicken out. I’ve always been too scared to do MD since I still can’t glide up and down the sheet nor can I sweep my own rock. Last night I threw my first stones since March 14, 2020 and boy is my body in pain even though the folks at #OCCurling were nice enough to let me skip during the orientation game and the pick up game that followed since I’m still in physical therapy for my shoulder issues over a year later... My physical therapist says I either have adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder) or shoulder impingement, or both. Knowing my luck and the fact that I’ve been dealing w/ chronic pain and limited range of motion/mobility for over a year, it’s probably both. But not sweeping much last night did help, though I still feel a little upper body soreness, especially the left shoulder/arm in the usual spots, ones marked by dark purple cupping marks. . . It felt like starting all over again physically, but luckily the strategy part of the game is way better now than it was when I threw my first rock at a Curl SD #LearnToCurl I attended alone the day before my birthday. Having watched the hundreds, maybe thousands of hours of curling I’ve watched since the 2018 Olympics and actually having curled myself, I certainly saw some improvements. Despite not being able to draw to save my life both on the ice and on paper, I was lucky enough to pull off an in-turn draw for 2 to get on the board. We ended up tied at the end and had we had more time, we may have been able to win it - momentum was certainly on our side once we got on the board in the first match. In both games, the idea that if a skip’s doing the right things he or she will just be guarding proved to be true. I haven’t decided yet if I’m wearing my @hardlinecurling #hoodie to @curlsandiego ‘s #LearnToCurl tonight or if I’m going w/ my usual #curling uniform of sorts - my @teamniklasedin hoodie from @dynastycurling 🤔🤔🤔 I absolutely LOVE that there’s a 🥌 on the actual hood part of the hoodie #socute One thing’s for sure, I’ll definitely be wearing my @teamhasselborg pants!!! OMG they’re so soft 😍🥰 Unfortunately, I’m short AF and probably need to cut off a foot’s worth of fabric from the leg so I’m not tripping all over myself... #TBT to my first #LearnToCurl when I showed up to @curlsandiego in my @heccabamilton #cosplay I had a lot of fun but definitely did not have any confidence that I signed up for another learn to curl session months later in anticipation of Fall League, did better and actually skipped during the mini game, but then still chickened out and didn’t have the balls to commit to a 10 week league. . . I regret not having played Fall League last year, I would be so much better now with 10 extra weeks of experience and maybe a bonspiel or two more under my belt. I’ve come a LONG way since my first league game on 2/2/19 and so much more to go. Most of my first 2 leagues I was convinced I would never learn to deliver a rock w/ just a broom, now I don’t even know how to function without my @teamniklasedin @hardlinecurling broom. Getting the fancy schmancy shoes helped a lot too as a sweeper, but I still can’t slide up and down the sheet. My slider shoe is still wicked fast and I’m still prone to yelping/screaming and feeling like I’m gonna die when I throw a rock. I hope one day I can slide up and down comfortable, be able to sweep my own rock if needed, and maybe even do 🐐 @niklasedin ‘s signature 360 spinorama move. . . . I had to use my Rey hair pieces to try and do #BeccaHamilton ‘s hair because I have really thin but wavy hair. No, I’m not in a trio with these two for @curlsandiego ‘s Fall League B. This is actually to commemorate success in converting a #learntocurl student from my sheet to a member and league participant 👏👏👏 Full disclosure, I guess Andrew gets most of the credit because Jean is one of his co-workers - he invited her to Learn To Curl and was one of the main instructors last week, but I’m taking partial credit LOL. . . I played #lead for another married couple tonight 😂 this is the third time in a row lol. IDK if I’ll continue to play w/ Joe and Heather because their usual teammate will be back next league game (in two weeks), but we’ll see how it goes. I think we’re doing more pick up games than traditional league this league because of people’s schedules. I’m relieved we’re off next week or I would need a sub myself because 11/2 is Fall Cabaret Night & I have to dance. My team played against Andrew’s team tonight (Jean played w/ him).
