Context: We have sheep. I have always been raised with sheep. We slaughter the sheep. We eat the sheep. I've always felt a bit weird about the fact that we give the skins to some guy instead of using them. So this time, I asked if I could keep one to try and tan it.

Outcome: I am not a squeamish person. Not in the least. But that smell is in fact not for me and neither is trying to remove the membrane from the skin layer in little bits for several hours because I do not have a threshing tool and I am not buying a threshing tool for one sheepskin. Unfortunately, Alum is also nonexistent in my country. The skins have gone sour and are now being disposed of.

Respect to people who do this as a hobby or for a living cause I did not make it a week.

I'm alive. I submitted my research paper, and then got really into sorting out my lamby skins*, ready for making slippers. I'm dropping a pair of skins off at the leatherworker's on Wednesday to be made into a bag and two pairs of slippers. I needed to comb all the tiny little sticky thorns out of the slipper-lamby's coat, which has been hours of work with a fine-toothed comb. I'll be back in circulation in a few days.

*I'm being self-sufficient for shoes, and recycling skins from my local lamb farmer, and giving the lambies a second life in a family. Sorry if that triggers vegans. I felt called to shaman for Allister's lambies.

With school starting up again, would anyone be interested in an encanto leather tanning HC list?
