Eleanor Friedberger’s “Make Me a Song”
For fans of the Fiery Furnaces, Destroyer, Julia Holter, Waxahatchee, Ex Hex, Angel Olsen, WILD FLAG, Hospitality, Sharon Van Etten, EMA, Sunflower Bean.
“’Make me song
Make me a sound
Vibrate, resonate
It takes the ear to hear the waves
And the heart to know your fears, so fear it
There's no hiding here
I could love you more
I could love you more’
If there wasn’t a recent song more adept at speaking to the importance and the love of music making, please let me know. Eleanor Friedberger, from the indie experimental rock band Fiery Furnaces, continues her solo career with her new album Rebound on Frenchkiss Records. Friedberger continues to find more mature tones and themes compared to her overly ambitious pre-2011 work with her brother on Fiery Furnaces. ‘Make Me a Song’ is an example of this shift.
‘It’s embarrassing to say, but I wanted to write a song about something really important’ Friedberger says in reference to the track. The song is inspired by a devout religious man’s passion and love. Where the man had religion, Friedberger’s focus instead is on music.
Being passionate and in love with music is something I can always agree with. To love a song is something I’ve been doing forever, and will continue to do forever. Now for more new music to fall in love with!” - @donnie_george_
