okay I need to know more about this Kara and Kelly book club fic, pretty please

DOESNT IT SOUND AMAZING? I'm really so sad that Kelly and Kara didn't have many scenes on their own.in the show itself

And the whole au idea really stemmed from that want to see more of them just hanging out because like, I really feel Kelly had to at least have already met Kara by the time we first meet Kelly in season four. That's always been my headcanon anyway and that they both bonded (ganged up) over how stubborn James is about being Guardian

But okay, book club au!

My thinking is that it all starts with dinner (I know, Kara? Food? You're so shocked, I can tell) when Kelly starts working in the same building (oh season five, so many missed opportunities).

Okay so, they're both working late on something and Kelly is the one that goes upstairs to see Kara with the offer of dinner while they work and then Kelly sees a book on Kara's desk, a book that she also happens to be reading! And they start talking about it, what they're loving/hating about the book. Maybe Kelly tells Kara about another book that's kind of similar but also different that Kara might like too and would she like to borrow her copy to read it?

And the rest is history!

I imagine that over time they'll talk a lot, about work and how frustrating their boss can be (legit forgot for a second that they shared the same boss 😂), about their older siblings, share all the embarrassing stories (more of Alex than James, 😉) and since I had thought of setting this during season five, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention of the awkward tension between Kara and Lena and how that's going. I know Kara had Alex to talk about that but it's never a bad thing to have a different perspective.

what’s your opinion on Rey’s gold lightsaber? I personally like it a lot, but was curious on your take as you know a lot more of the mythos on the different colours

I think it makes a lot of sense for Rey! As far as I know, the yellow sabers are associated with Grey Jedi and Sentinels--two groups that represent a sort of ‘middle ground’ when it comes to Force/Jedi philosophy. 

I would argue that Rey is something of a Grey Jedi, even taking into account how preoccupied The Rise of Skywalker is with Legacy and honoring the past/lore/Jedi etc. (I’d go into detail, but I still feel a little hesitant, posting the big spoiler-y stuff that happens in this movie, so maybe I’ll just wait a bit. XD )

And in addition to the blade color! I think it’s cool that it’s built from her staff. My only complaint is that she didn’t go for a double-bladed saber, or a pike. (Which would’ve been a cool nod to the Jedi Temple Guards!) 

Aside from that, though? Rey’s saber gets a thumbs up from me!

wow i am OTTERLY shocked that people are curious about that one. 😆  first of all, this has been in the works for a while and the title is a reference to a goofy 80s dance movie,,,,, which has, naturally, since been co-opted by a right-wing hate group because 2020 is a garbage fire. so that’s been demotivational.

ANYWAY, this was another collaboration with @ultranos, obviously, although this time it’s a legit co-authoring. it’s a spiritual sequel to The Two-Body Problem in which Alex and J’onn have to travel abroad for a secret mission and shape-shifting chaos ensues. Also features Kara, Clark, and lots of indignant squawking. Oh, and Alex playing with small children while Kara makes up a lie to ensure public safety.

M’gann and Alex!  i’m glad someone asked about that fic. if i could ever motivate myself to watch season 2 again i’d finish it lol. that one is a short fill-in fic that builds up a friendship between them between 2x03 and 2x12. it’s something i wish the show had focused on more because there’s always been this neat subtext of Alex vibing with the Martians and also M’gann‘s evolution from avoiding the call to heroism to leading the revolution against the white Martians was about a thousand times more interesting than what canon did with Mon-El.

Two - I always imagined Kelly knowing about James being Guardian, though not really from the very beginning but definitely a little time after Kara does and I can just see her worried face about her brother risking his life but then ultimately trusting that he'd be okay. But oh, is he ever in trouble when she and Kara do gang up on him. Ah, the combined power of baby sisters 😂

Three - I thought of this au before we ever got confirmation that Kelly didn't know about Kara being Supergirl and I've honestly gone back and forth whether I wanted to stick with canon, so I'd have Kara be vague about what exactly happened between her and Lena because I can see Kelly listening to Kara but also kind of... still knowing in a way that Kara's keeping specific details from her. But like, Kelly is the kind of person who would understand and wouldn't pry further, y'know?

I actually have even thought about how this scene would start since the episode that Lena gave Kara that book after Jeremiah died and Kelly being curious when she sees Kara with that book and then eventually Kara talks about how Lena found out something about her from somebody else, something that Kara had kept from her ever since they met and how hurt she was about etc etc.

And ahh the book! The bane of my existence because I literally have no idea, which is a problem considering that this is meant to be the starting point for the story, haha. It comes down to figuring out the kinds of readers that they are which is where I'm stuck as I am so very terrible about deciding. But if you have any thoughts about this, I happily welcome it!

Hi Vv, I seem to remember you talking about the mbti types for the supergirl characters? I know you did Kara, J’onn and Alex’s types on this blog, but was there perhaps a podcast episode where you spoke about the other characters? And if I’m remembering wrong, what are your thoughts on the mbti types of the other main characters?

unlike a lot of those “mbti ur fave!” blogs, i won’t do typing for characters that I don’t think we know enough about to get an accurate read-- which is why I never did anyone else back during S2.

this is, unfortunately, still true for the vast majority of the characters.

the only one i would feel comfortable adding at this point is Lena, who is an INFJ.

As we can tell by her fondness for working in secret bunkers and relative lack of interest in maintaining relationships vs. doing work, Lena is an introvert -- she is energized in quiet situations and when working alone. She is also very clearly a Judger with regard to her decision-making and interpretations of others. We also see that, for all that she insists her decisions are logical, she is often driven by her feelings about other people and how they will perceive her.

Primary function: Introverted Intuition (Ni) -- looks for connection between thoughts and ideas and tries to assign meaning to said connections

Secondary function: Extroverted Feeling (Fe) -- most comfortable relating to others through feelings; applies information gathered by Ni toward creating harmonious interpersonal relationships

Tertiary function: Introverted Thinking (Ti) -- processes information in a systematic, logical way to make it fit with what they already know/understand

Inferior function: Extroverted Sensing (Se) -- prone to distrusting environmental feedback that contradicts their own opinions or intellect because the outside world is ever-changing and therefore may not always be The Same

It seems that Nia has absorbed some of Brainy’s poetic flair in this latest episode of Scorpion’s Attic. Thanks for all the fun good discussion, but now I want potstickers and my brother ate the last box, a betrayal like no other.

That actually was Brainy who wrote the poem! He sent the anonymous tip to Kara’s phone through techno-organic means. 

An Ode to Pizza

Disappointment stings and sticks, much like the pizza-cutter’s blade upon a layer of cheese, when a trusted friend or lover picks your beloved snack as theirs to seize.

Things are not always what they seem much like that moment upon waking from a dream.

You can really hear the conflicted feelings of a troubled love and an obligation to uphold the law of pizza in Vv’s Brainy’s writing.
