I like to imagine this is Thy’s afterlife. No more scars, no more pain, no more bad memories. Just him at sixteen again, his clan whole and alive, and Tamlen. Always Tamlen.

The clan is moving again, he’s glad because he loves to travel. They’re waiting for him, they won’t leave without him, because he is a part of the clan - it’s not something he has to question. He’s wanted.

He’s happy.

Much to my surprise, I appear to actually be improving on an artistic level.

Huh.

I mean:

From the original I did a year ago (you can find it here, if you’re really curious) the quality has visibly jumped! Which is good! I’m glad I chose to do this because I’ve been really feeling like a failure, art-wise, lately. I was starting to question if I was even truly good at it - something that hasn’t happened to me in years.

Even if this was just a build up from an old model, doing this at least proves to me that my art is progressing and I’m not just going through the motions. Also, if you want to watch me updating this work, the Drawing Video is Here.

Now, if you’ve seen the old post you’ll know I put an explanation down for the meaning Thy’s tarot has behind it. However, I feel like I may need to update that meaning as well after all the development he’s gone through.

So I’m just going to edit it and add it here:

The tarot used is the 10 of Swords. For Thy, each sword has a meaning in it’s placement, each one belongs to a companion or lover. All the swords are actually from in game as well! They are either the weapons that these characters carried in the beginning or a weapon that they could later acquire.

On his left: Two blades strike through his heart, deep and fatal. In the center another cuts through his spine, both to sever [ties] and to slay him. A simple dagger stabs him in the back on his right, a vicious mockery of the betrayal its own owner felt from a blade of his. There are two swords set at his sides, equally confining him within this demise and yet also offering to support him should he wish to grab hold of them. One is a simple long sword, yet still a fine blade that needs no glamour to kill a foe. The other is all fine curves and hidden power, a great treasure for any who would wish to own it. A more ornate blade rests harmlessly upon his leg, its sister dagger that belongs to him lies discarded to the side whilst he grasps for a Dalish one, wounding his hand in an effort to keep hold of it. His other blade is held in his grip almost absently, as though he has no intentions of using it.

Originally, I didn’t add a daybreak to the card, because he was supposed to have no sunrise of better tomorrows - being a selfish mytar. T’hy’la was supposed to die, sad and alone, forsaking his lover and forsaken by his love. No friends left to hear his farewell, his enemy as his greatest ally as he walked towards his death.

However, he does live and so I added a bit of light to his gory background as well as streaming green lines that come down on him from the sky (clearly representing the Breach) not a happy light, but a light of tomorrow nonetheless. I would also like to add that the green I used is the same green for his eyes (because it amuses me).

The taint of the blight drips from his eyes as a marker for the cause of his greatest sorrows, and he surrounds himself with nothing but red spilled from friend and foe alike. Despite the storm that is his life however, his grey skies are calm, they are steady in his darkness - and though he has closed his eyes to the world, another one shines bright and open upon his wounded hand.

I wanted a new icon on discord that had both Thy and Cullen in it, but I don’t have my tablet atm, so I grabbed one of the (surprisingly few) pictures I do have of them and coloured it in as a substitute until I’m able to make something proper. This is just a shot from an animatic I’m working on, but it’s the best one  I have currently.

I recently found @dalishtorment‘s Tamlen and the way he’s been written is so good that it inspired me to draw my favourite starter npc once again!

God, I forgot how much I loved seeing these two together. I should really get around to doing more art with Tamlen in it ♥ Thy looks so happy for once, it’s nice seeing his smile from back then.
