prater being a collector of both things and people (and look how dehumanizing that is! being the subject of the same hobby that has a billionaire collect inanimate objects) is already setting his and red’s dynamic to very shippable levels, but also when prater says red’s unlike the others, and shares more personal details with him than anyone, and wants red to do the same?

how red’s special presentation made him feel things?

prater/red was hot from the get go. prater was into red heavy even then.

the moment he learns he has actual bhb on his hands? possibly on a leash?

he wanted to fuck dexter so bad it made him stupid. (literally. it was common knowledge BHB went after criminals and chose his victims carefully.)

none of dexter’s previous antagonists viewed dexter as an object, not even brian.

i wonder how big of a consolation prize it was for prater that even though BHB turned on him, at least he’s gonna have literal BHB’s cadaver in his collection.

(also it’s pretty sexy to have bay harbor turn on you but maybe that’s just me. or not. prater was such a freak he definitely would’ve gotten off on it if he had a moment to think.)

See, here's why I like Prater so much. Is he not only a total dick but also disgustingly evil? Yes. But is he lying here? No. He's actually pretty damn straightforward with Dexter. And he does open his sheltered world to the group of killers he gathers, at extreme risk to his reputation and freedom. It's partly the thrill and fascination, but there's also this sickeningly sincere belief that he makes a genuine, deep connection with them. And because Dex was so real in his "show and tell" and revealed a less glamorous, more vulnerable side of a killer's life, Prater wanted to share more about his past with him than the others. Prater also has a despicable, unshakable conviction that anyone he gives money to somehow owes him whatever he decides they owe him at the drop of a hat. But also. He gave Dexter something he doesn't give out to almost anyone. I tend to doubt he's talked about the letters with his parents' killer to anyone else in a long time, if ever. And it grates at him that Dex was lying when he, Prater, exposed so much real shit.

His honest attempt to connect with Dexter reflects the efforts of Mia and Gemini, who also tried in various confused and disastrously idiotic ways to See Dexter and allow themselves to be Seen. Dexter secretly, with self-awareness, has so much power over the entire killer's club.
