Okay so mer sj y yqy are childhood friends both enslaved sj-mer yqy stolen human royalty turned mer by sea witch wu yanzi who stole her for ransom, sj magically turns herself human (spent most of her years in wu yanzi's lair, he keeps catching and killing kids and she knows the only reason she's still alive is bcuz he found her useful but that runs out so she figures leaving with a human princess, making a human princess indebted to her, is her best option) so she can help yqy escape and return home and they journey

find orphaned lbh who had buried her adoptive washerwoman mother half a year ago, take her in mostly at yqy's behest

Binghe now happily grouped with totally fully human girls sj and yqy, issues arise maybe attempted abductions when they pass through town, need to split up, yqy found and forcibly taken home, sj injured--binghe stays and helps heal to best of ability

eventually sj realizes lbh is like merroyalty or sum wtv she don’t care they only have eachother now but eventually someone idk lgj comes to take binghe back

Sj got too comfortable. Lbh hints that she knows abt sj she knows everything! the courting gifts are for shen jiu, binghe's everything is for sj but sj is terrified bcuz one oh shit two YOU KNEW?
