I hated 'A Separate Peace,' which is funny because I'm pretty sure it was Gay. Not 'officially sanctioned in our academic discussions' gay but like, that obviously Gay Shit that no one will acknowledge as Gay Shit. But it's also ~tragic which is one of the reasons I hated it. And it's about these sad prep school boys and the onset of war I guess. Idk for having to read it twice between two separate high schools my clearest memories of it are that it was both unofficially Gay and a fucking trial.

I never had to read it (man, I missed out on a lot of those everyone-reads-them books! I wonder how I got away with that), but I definitely heard it was Pretty Gay. And also tragic. The combination thereof does not exactly give me joy.

I keep meaning to give Forster’s “Maurice” a try, I read “Howard’s End” several years ago and liked the writing style and “Maurice” has both a. official gay and b. a happy ending from what I hear, so what more could one want out of a classic?
