Hello! For the WIP ask game, I'll ask about DMBJ - A Certain Someone is Alive and Well and Teaching at Med School

Thank you for asking!

A Foye-is-still-alive fic set mostly during Reboot! It also features an implication I got which might or might not be accurate from the miluotuo around the Zhang Family Ancient Pavillion.

He faked his death became a PI in a lab studying genetics. He got his interest in genetics, both trying to find a way to escape the changes he's been feeling since the Greatest Tomb Robbery in History / Zhang Qiling + M9 Tomb Robbery/Siguniang and trying to find out various things about Zhang family genetics. After he helps Schodinger's brats go through "it," his body tries to die on him and he, Zhang Rishan and Huo Daofu get to try to stop it from becoming... I'm playing with the implication that when they die qilin blooded Zhang become miluotuo unless they are buried in the Zhang Family Ancient Pavillion. He, Zhang Rishan and Huo Daofu came up with a way to hold off the changes with medicine. After they figure out a way to, he fakes his death.

And then, with the experience he gained through finding out about what his genes were doing, and that it very much resembles various types of cancer, and working with various biology departments in universities and institutes, he moved over into doing research and training/teaching a bunch of mentees through their PhDs and postdocs. (He has Opinions on gene editing programs from trying to put his own through them).

He worked at the university Liang Wan got her degree from. It happened by accident that she came tolearn at his department but he was intrigued. She still follows him in alumni magazines and journals. And has his email. Zhang Rishsn does not because it was deemed too dangerous.

Then Liang Wan and Zhang Rishan get a call from Huo Daofu about how Wu Xie's dying from cancer and the changes he's undergoing actually resemble the changes Someone was going through, because Zhang blood and death. And that now a certain Zhang Qiling knows, despite Wu Xie trying to hide the changes.

Liang Wan's heart thunders as she comes to a stop; leans over, hands on her knees, to pant. Ahead of her, Zhang Haiqin's form, in a stripped-down version of her usual garb, a tunic top and trousers, topped off with the tennis shoes that Liang Wan had managed to wheedle her into wearing while out running after weeks of attempting to change her mind, pauses. "We haven't even been running for five minutes," she says. "Surely you can't be tired already."

Surely, thinks Liang Wan, vindictive, because she's panting too hard to speak. Eventually, she manages to gasp out, "Easy...for you...to say." She can feel the sweat sheeting her back, sticking her own shirt to her skin, and it makes her feel disgusting. "Not all of us...have to...run up and down...mountains, for our training."

"Ah, so that's why you're not a field medic," Zhang Haiqin says, and now she's got a humorous tint to her expression. "And here I thought it was just because you couldn't stand to be unable to dye over your grey hairs."

"Shut up," says Liang Wan. "I don't have any grey hairs." She's only in her mid-thirties, she has years before she starts going grey. She swallows a couple times to try and relieve the dry, gasping sensation in her throat, to no avail, and genuinely contemplates sitting down on the ground to try and drag back some semblance of composition—but only for a moment. "Ugh, stop being so perfectly—fit, it's demoralising."

Zhang Haiqin raises a brow. The expression, which had once only looked severe and aloof, now carries with it the subtle hint of bemusement. "Is there anything else I should stop?" she asks, drily. "Perhaps breathing? Or existing? Or—?"

"Gah," says Liang Wan, or rather chokes a bit on, because she's still not regained her breath. It means something along the lines of stop being perfect and stop teasing me and a whole slew of other things. Instead, she lets out another pitiful groan, and staggers to her feet, heart a skin drum beneath her chest, and kisses Zhang Haiqin.

Zhang Haiqin freezes for a moment—she can't have been expecting it—and then relaxes, kisses her back. If not for how positively disgusting Liang Wan feels at the moment, it would be very nice—top ten kisses, even. Well, of the week, anyway. When she pulls away, Zhang Haiqin points out, ever-reasonable, "You can't get out of the rest of the trail by kissing me."

"I can try," Liang Wan says. "Wouldn't it be much more enjoyable to walk the last bit? We can hold hands. I can kiss you some more. Win-win."

"Hmm," says Zhang Haiqin, in that way that means she's not fully convinced. Well, Liang Wan isn't afraid to play a little dirty. She'll just kiss Zhang Haiqin until she comes around.

(It takes less time than Zhang Haiqin would probably like to admit to convince her.)
