Queer Book Recommendations

It's pride season in Wellington, New Zealand and my local library has published its second "Teen Staff Picks" zine! In that spirit, I bring you, a collection of lesser-known queer books featured in the two that have been released so far! I've narrowed the lists down to books that have 1000 or fewer reviews on Goodreads as of posting (though I actually use Storygraph personally). I haven't read most of these, they're new to me as well but looking forward to getting into them.

Fuck your library if it has 3 layers of security that prevent people from *just entering the building* without "membership"

Fuck your library if it isn't a place that encourages ALL people to learn & grow

Fuck your library if the first face you see upon entering is a security guard and not a librarian

Libraries should be a safe haven for ANYONE. You should not need a badge to get into a library. It should be a free, open space for education. I am not talking about having library cards to check out books, I mean this library in front of me literally has TWO security check points where you have to scan a badge to get in the door and also a vested-up security guard sitting at the front door.

If your library is not for everyone, then you're a fake library in my book and I will harbor a strong dislike of you until I die.

Not to mention the fact that this was the ONLY library nearby that was even open today. The nearest open library after this was like an hour walk

Witchy Book Reviews: A thread

Becoming Dangerous: Witchy Femmes, Queer Conjurers, and Magical Rebels

4/5 stars, would recommend and would probably read again.

It's a collection of essays from people of all sorts of walks of life. At the end of each essay, I wrote a 1-2 sentence summary of what I learned from it, and one of them had some really helpful information I jotted down too. This could be just because I like to hear about what other people learn through their crafts, but I think it was very neat to see so many different perspectives. Even if there were a number of essays I had to power through for apothisexual (sex repulsed) reasons

I'm a firm believer that Buying books and Reading books are two different hobbies. Found some neglected lovelies on the shelf. I think it's time I crack open a few. 📖 💝

If I had a nickel for every time a tv show that Aaron Ehasz was heavily involved in featured an episode with a life & death escape from a giant library, I’d have two nickels; which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice....

Library in my college are doing a Christmas blind date with a book. Was originally going to get something out but I think I know what this is so I'm going to unwrap it later (I think it's Good Omens)
