Most of my books are really old and beat up. I found this out when I looked at my copy of the Mark of Athena yesterday, and it brought back all the memories. Years ago (before I had my phone), I did all sorts of weird things to my books, just to kill time when I couldn't bring myself to focus on reading anymore. I would write my ideas down in the pages of the book, I would eat the tops of the pages because I had a paper eating phase, I also licked the pages of the book, hoping to give it that weird leathery look I saw in movies. I did so much with my books. I suppose the abuse was a sign of deep love, but it also makes it hard to read them nowadays.
My licking of the pages has left some of them with a really weird texture, so I guess my hope to make the pages have that thin, uplifted, old parchment feel did turn out. But it makes them feel weird to try and read nowadays. And my old scribbles and notes and ideas written in the margins make things sort of hard to read past. So maybe i'll have to buy new copies of some of them. And if the weird texture I myself created makes the books become unbearable to read, well at least some new copies are coming next week. And i'm also a master procrastinator with my notes app, so i could probably delay the reading... Even though that thought just feeds my deep fears of losing my ability to read after graduating high school....sigh...
