The Song of Inquiry 🎐💛
The Miniature Man by Liebing
The Miniature Man

Part of WangXian Gotcha Against ICE
Summary: “Brother, may I ask you something?” Lan Zhan asked. “Of course, you can ask me anything Lan Zhan,” his brother cheerfully responded. “Have you ever…” Lan Huan held his phone tightly to his ear, eager to hear every word. Surely this was going to be the first time his brother was going to finally ask about dating a boy or kissing a boy or… “Have you ever suspected a miniature man was living in your apartment wall?” Lan Huan blinked. “Pardon?” Kay's comments: This story was such a fun read and so cute! I wish I had a mini Wei Wuxian at home and I totally get how Lan Wangji forgot all about asking him how he could help him and instead cooked him minitiature meals and dressed him in doll clothes - how can one resist? Excerpt: “If you climb onto my palm, I promise you will not be harmed. I wish for us to meet each other properly.” Wei Ying bit his lip and then shrugged and climbed out onto Lan Zhan’s hand. Lan Zhan lifted him up onto the kitchen bench and then they looked at each other. Wei Ying waved nervously. Lan Zhan smiled. Wei Ying blushed. Lan Zhan was rather beautiful when he smiled. Wei Ying had studied the photos around his apartment but had not seen it in real life until now. “I am Lan Zhan,” Lan Zhan said with a bow, how formal! Wei Ying couldn’t figure out how to say his name until Lan Zhan handed him a small pencil and paper. “Wei Ying,” Lan Zhan read once Wei Ying was finished. “It is nice to meet you.” Wei Ying blushed again. What was wrong with him? It had been a while since he had talked to someone other than an animal or an insect but he used to charm everyone from children to elderly Aunties! He should be able to charm Lan Zhan and instead somehow Lan Zhan was charming him.

In all seriousness: there is a lot of love in this one. Please mind the warning tags, and read with an open and tender heart.

Ok, so, I was thinking about this in class today (don't ask, I'm fucking brain damaged-), if in Mo Dao Zu Shi the main characters were instead of Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian, Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng, what would happen in the incense burner chapter with these two? If Jiang Cheng was in Wei Ying's place, what would he shove up his ass? Lan Xichen's sword or his flute? Gimme your opinion cuz I don't know, I don't think I'll sleep tonight with this on my mind lolz
I need to know, it's for science
So? what do you think? Sword or flute?
Shuoyue (sword)
Liebing (flute)
Edit: I read this again now and I'm questioning my mental integrity help-
I love your art! It's so beautiful and I loved your spiritual weapons personified.
But I was curious why you picked Lan Xichen's xiao (flute) Liebing instead of his sword Shouyue (朔月 shuòyuè - new moon) ?
*whispers* I love that they are married.
Thank you! 😊💙
The reason is quite simple - I had a rough idea about personifications of most main characters' weapons/intsruments and wanted to draw them all, but in the end finished only the girls I like the most (whom I also ship hard) 😅
While I think Shouyue is a nice guy and Baxia's most likely only true friend, I have a hard time seeng them as a couple. I know it might sound weird, since for me they feel like properly fleshed out characters with their own stories and etc, and you know nothing about them, since I never really spoke about it OTL but I'll try to put it shortly, just for some extra info.
I think Baxia sees all other swords as either enemies or rivals whom she must surpass and beat in a fair fight at least once, even if they're her allies. Every time she sees another sword, her initial instinct is to fight until she beats them, and when she does, she immediately loses a great chunk of interest in them.
So here lies the dilemma: she can't love someone who has no power over her, while her pride also cannot bear anyone overpowering her.
With musical instrument it's an entirely different matter. Baxia respects them of course, but she doesn't really see them as weapons and as a result, her rivals or worthy opponents. They were not made for fighting, even if their skills can be useful in it. So she always acted somewhat indulgent and even dismissive towards them, until meeting Liebing. She was the first one to make such a weird effect on Baxia. How could such a delicate and gentle girl be also so firm and fearless? How could she accompany Baxia in her endless hunts without feeling like a burden? Not to mention only Liebing's singing can pull Baxia out of her murderous berserk mode, when she completely loses control over herself; only she can bring her the peace of mind Baxia hardly ever experienced before.
So while Liebing has that strange power over her, which Baxia can't explain in any way familiar to her, somehow she doesn't feel angered by it. More like intrigued and maybe even willing to put her endless warfare away - only for a couple of minutes, just enough to hear one more song of Liebing.
