Went out to see a rare orchid (Spiranthes diuvialis) with my mom and got a new moth and beetle out of the walk!

The moth is Cisseps fulvicollis, which is a type of tiger moth! They’re widely distributed in the eastern US I am honestly surprised I didn’t have this one yet.

The beetle is Disonycha alternata, which is a species of leaf beetle. They’re more sparsely scattered in the eastern and western US.

Red-capped Manakin (Ceratopipra mentalis) We saw this ball of birb in the wilds of the Osa Peninsula on a recent trip to Costa Rica. My guide book describes them as a small woodland bird with a “wide base” which is just an incredibly polite way to call them chubby. In spite of their wide base they have some nimble dance moves. Here is my latest "Lifer". Bird #319 on my Life List. The Boreal Chickadee. It looks a lot like a Black-capped Chickadee except for the brownish cap and the rusty colour on it's sides. I was in a stakeout with about 10 other birders this afternoon at Spruce Bog in Algonquin Park.
