Lately, I’ve been feeling very overwhelmed. The paperwork, for work, keeps piling up. The endless tasks and projects, at home, keep building up. And my blogging list of ideas keeps getting longer. This weekend, I had plans to go camping with friends, but an unfortunate situation caused for the camping trip to be cancelled. I was looking forward to this trip because I am very much in need of some down time. I haven’t really had much time to relax since last month, I haven’t had time to write a blog, and I’m in desparate need to unplug my brain. While I chose to prioritize my weekend differently, since the camping trip was cancelled, I am also trying to focus on ways to stay relaxed until my next escape from reality (which, is in 2 weeks). This morning, I chose to sleep in a little later, take my time drinking some VERY DELICIOUS coffee (Compliments to my good friend, Chris), and spend a little extra time on making myself breakfast… And relishing the quiet in my home, as I ate my breakfast while I write this blog. On a Friday morning, I am usually in a rush to get clinical notes done from sessions I had the day before and then trying to get myself together before picking up my son so we can take our next “Funday Friday” adventure. And the weekend mornings are typically rushed to eat, get showered and dressed, so we/I can get out the door for errands, t-ball, or some other activity. Or, I am rushing through a weekend morning in order to complete tasks here at the house so we/I can focus on other activities that are planned for later in the day. It. becomes. DAUNTING.
This morning was the first time, IN AWHILE, that I don’t have to rush. I am kid-free this weekend and while the possibilities are endless, I am focused on completing tasks that really need to be taken care of (for the sake of my sanity). But, I am able to do this without rushing and without further causing myself to feel stressed and overwhelmed. Although my plans fell through, this weekend, I have realized the silver lining to this and I am seizing this moment to take care of myself through other outlets and in other ways. First up, yard work and then the veggie container garden (which is therapeutic for me)!
