There's a melancholy beauty to the #island in the rain #iosintherain. I feel extremely lucky to have experienced this - an island springclean before the beginning of season 2016. It was only drizzling when I set off for a friend's house, so I stopped to take some pics. I need some pics of #offseasononios for a future project I'm planning. Look at the #reflections in the lake that's appeared in the square opposite the town hall. Had a wonderful afternoon with friends - extremely hospitable hosts, friendly conversation, a veritable feast, kids' antics and a dog in love with my knee. Walked down to the #portofios by the donkey path. No rosemary plants to be had anywhere, I'll have to bring one back from Athens when I next come over & take some cuttings from the Mylopotas house garden when I go up there. Had a coffee at Echo Beach, where I bumped into a load of people I know, & then decided to walk along the #portbeach #yialosios . Imagine - I haven't walked along a beach at all since I've been here this time. Unheard of for me 😉 Found some pretty shells & sea urchin shells. I was the only person on the bus up to the village, so I stayed on to go to Mylopotas & then back up to the village again. A great little tour as I don't know if I'll get down to Mylopotas this trip. My thumb is incredibly painful, even though I'm trying not to use it at all - using my left hand a bit more & using the other digits of my right hand ..... Takes much longer to do things, but hey, it doesn't matter. I got Irene in the pharmacy to bandage it up for me & I'll see if that helps. Spent a wonderful morning in #foinikicafe with Sahala, Chelsea, Malcolm & Hamish - who's become a very big dog indeed! Had a delish cheese & ham pie there - I do love Elsa's pastry. One of the things I love most about #lifeonios are these impromptu meetings between friends - especially when it's off season on the #island. Lunch & social needs sorted, I'm back home nibbling at my favourite #ios_island delicacy: #myzithropites. A kind of tart made with fresh cheese in an almond pastry casing. It's the thing dreams are made of. You'll have to come & taste some for yourselves. I got mine from #mosenta down in the port. Maria's goodies are delish. People buy stuff to take home as presents for dear ones & end up eating their presents on the next ferry ..... I got this frame from Stamatis & I rather like it, so I'll put a pic of Uli in the middle. Electrician finished for now, now's the time for some sustenance. Sometimes only a #souvlaki will hit the spot. Am sitting in #yummybympolikos eavesdropping on a table of locals. The repairs needed for the desalination plant & the first gay bar opening on the island seem to be the hot topics of conversation. The #island smells so fresh after the rain. Sitting in my garden having a simple lunch & joking with Uli. I feel him very close by in this spot, & not only because his ashes are here, but because I feel him looking after me here. The electrician is coming tonight to finish up the bits & pieces - it's Akis from Psathi & I can thoroughly recommend him. Of course I find there is a connection between him & back in the day: one of our great treats was to drive to his father's place on Psathi beach & have breakfast there (It's been closed for years now). We'd collect Kolitsani Stuart on the way (who'd enjoy sitting in the back of our old merc & waving regally at passersby). Fun times! Psathi is still one of my favourite places here. In my garden, you can hear a wide variety of birds chirping away, sitting here listening to their songs & reliving some wonderful #memories, I realise how lucky I am: I have amazing memories to look back at & I'm still #livingthedream. It's great to experience the #simplicity of #lifeonios - along with modern day modcons. Such a magical place. Down in the #portofios looking up at the village. Still quite windy today. Am doing some work in the garden before meeting up with a friend this afternoon. It's great being able to to combine work & socialising. I'm finding my house & my garden more & more of a refuge. No, I'm not cutting myself off from people, but it's a good feeling to have somewhere to go to escape from them when I need to be alone.
